Razz 5th Street: Stop It!

The Two Plus Two Magazine licenses its articles from the authors only for a period of three months, after which their rights return to their authors. The following is the introduction to the original article. If you are interested in the full content, please contact the author.

Opponent: xx8A7
Raiser: (32) 479

Are you this Raiser?  Are you going to raise here because you think “Hey, I get razz. I read Sklansky. I have the best draw and I’m raising.”  Unless you are absolutely sure the 8 has a brick in the hole or has paired, you are not ahead.   The hand above is a real hand and the Opponent had (53)8A7.  The Pro Poker Tools Razz Simulator1 shows him at 59.62% against the (32)479.   Giving him an even rougher hand like: 8763A, the simulator still shows him well ahead at 55.87%.   If you don’t understand this or believe it, then back away from the raise button.

Maybe you aren’t that player at all, maybe you are this one:

…idiot raised with a K hi – moron – nice suckout!
--quote from PokerStars chatbox

Perhaps you by-passed the chatbox but still jammed 5th when your (63)789 was raised by xx24K and then privately cursed your opponent when the showdown came 8432A for him and you’d called him down with your “improved” hand of 8763A.
