unintentional slow play

unintentional slow play

1-2 nl 400 max

hero in hj with ~600 dealt K diamonds Ace of clubs.

UTG limps UTG + 1 limps, LJ limps. Gotta love low stakes poker.

hero raises to $12. small blind calls UTG +1 and LJ call.

4 ways to the flop ($45 after rake). K Hearts J diamonds 5 diamonds.

Small blind grabs some chips acts like he is going to bet, then changes his mind and checks. I thought this was genuine indecision and not hollywooding for the sake of getting a free card. I was worried he might have two pair or three of a kind and couldn't decide between lead betting and checking raising.

UTG+1 bets $35. This player is one of the two worse players at the table. He has been bluffing a lot and contributing to other players stacks. $250 stack

UTG+2 calls. This player is the other worse player at the table. He doesn't bluff but doesn't fold much either. He has won a few pots and has a stack at around $400.

Hero decides to flat not as a trap but is playing cautiously due to SB tell.

SB folds. pot $150.

turn card 7 clubs.

UTG+1 bets $65, LJ calls. ($280)

Hero doesn't believe either player is strong. UTg+1 has been betting weak all night. I think he would let someone else bet if he was strong, and he doesn't have much behind to hurt me. LJ would have raised sometime if he was strong considering all the draws. Hero jams. Pot is effectively $580.

UTG+1 folds. LJ tank calls ($880).

river is 5 spades. Hero shows. LJ tank mucks. Hero scoops a ~900 pot with effectively one pair. SB whispers something like you slow played that.

I was surprised I could win so large with just one pair. But I thought my reads were right. I normally don't get the money in too often, but this situation I thought called for it. I wasn't planning on trapping on the flop. The SB influenced my decision to flat. On the turn I used the information I had to make what I thought was the right move.

So what does everyone think?

Don't post the reveal in your OP. You should either post this sort of hand as a PAHWM ("play a hand with me") or stop the OP before making your last decision.

The cut-out-chips-check tell is usually weakness, not strength. Sometimes it's intentional, like an attempted angle, but more often than not it's someone contemplating a bluff or betting a weak hand for value, than thinking better of it.

Otherwise, it seems like your reads were right, so well played.

Shouldn't this normally be a significant flop raise? This assuming we weren't afraid of the SB.

It would be less confusing if you didn't call the LJ and UTG+2 interchangeably.

That player is a calling station. You took advantage of it. Probably had Kx and couldn't lay down TP. NH

everything about this hand is fine. playing AK TPTK this way to stack a calling station works well.
