What Am I Missing?

What Am I Missing?

Can anyone explain this blunder and what I am missing?

After my move, I have 11 rolls to win the game. 6/3, 5/3, 4/3, 66, 55, 44, 33, 22.

After the "correct move" I can only count 9 rolls. 6/2, 5/2, 66, 55, 44, 33, 22.

Numbers like 65 exist 😀

Apologies senior moment! I now make it 20 - 17 in favour of the correct move.

19 - 17, but yeah, it's always better (or the same) for the two checkers to be 3 apart from one another than 1 or 5 apart. And it's always better (or the same) for the checkers to be 2 apart from one another than 4 apart or on the same point.

Mochy Seminar, non contact positions in backgammon.

The thing i remember for sure : when only two checkers left, memorize the number 2.7 (difference between those two last checkers).

So best is 3, then 2, then 4.

Maybe this is nitpicky, but it's not useful to say 3 is better than 2 or 4. The only time you would have that choice is when one of the plays wastes a pip.

Here you can have the checkers 3 apart by playing 6/5/off, but you definitely want to not waste a pip and keeps things 2 or 4 apart:
