Virtual Currency - Alt Coin Discussion Thread
I wanted to post a different thread to discuss the "crypto-coin" boom that happened this week.
For those who don't know, crypto-coins (or alt coins) have exploded in popularity among the bitcoin crowd. Some coins have gone from 5-10 cents to 2-3 dollars, making early investors millions. The market caps have gone from $500,000 being significant to the same coins have 20-30 million in market cap just two weeks later.
While alt-coins have long been a favorite of the "pump and dump" crowd - much like penny stocks - it's been their popularity in China this week that have many thinking if the run can be more sustained.
Even more, some (like WorldCoin) have financial services coming out that will allow direct crypto-fiat transactions...much like Coinbase is for bitcoin.
Anyway, I really wanted to get a good discussion going here of these coins. Full disclosure: after staying FAR away from alt coins this summer I recently jumped in to three that I like a lot and think they have a lot of long-term potential: WDC, Megacoin, and Peercoin. I'd love to hear what coins others like and the reasons why!

What do you guys think the most hated alts are? Can't think of anything more hated than HEX which is despised by people on both reddit and X alike. Led by an obvious brash scammer like Richard Heart and still seems to have die hard cultists left.
I have HEX that's locked until Sept. 2025. Not that it'll be worth anything.

for momentum play or long term hold?
I am open for short term gains and then convert into bitcoin or I am also open to long term holds.

Not getting 10x with big caps.
AI memes can 50x but hard to pick.
If you’re happy with a 3x, just buy majors.
for my 3 1K bullets I am open to high risk. Whatever is the most +EV. If you guys thinking something has a 50% chance to 10x and 50% chance to 0 I would rather go for that than an almost guaranteed 3x.

SOL, ETH, ADA, DOGE
There may be some type of deal with the US govt and people from ADA, HBAR, Hyperledger and throw in DOGE because of Elon. People are no longer afraid of the SEC in the US because of the new administration. XRP was relisted at a lot of exchanges. It just went on a run so wait for a dump if you like that.
buy COTI and thank me later with dinner as SW Steakhouse! It's at around 17 cents, lots in the pipeline etc...With a decent bull run for alt season, it can break a dollar or more depending if their mainnet goes according to plan etc. Look into them, they work with ADA, and many other blockchains. Privacy is their big narrative. DYOR of course and good luck!!! 😉

If this is a short term roll it'd have to be like XRP, DOGE, and SOL.
Long term bitcoin/ETH only imo.

We have entered the mania phase of the bull market. I own about 20 altcoins, and they are all up in the past week. IOTA, which is still down 87% from its 2017 ATH, is up 154% in the past week. Do I recommend this coin? No. Could it do a 10x in the next 6-12 months? Sure, why not? But after that it will likely drop >90% again.
This is why your time frame matters. If you're looking to make 10-year investments, focus on fundamentals, which are going to take some time to learn, but start with coins in the top 10 or 20 by market cap. If you're looking to make a killing in the next 6-12 months, focus on the latest trends, which are AI coins and meme coins and maybe SUI, which didn't exist during the 2021 bull market but is now in the top 20 and being touted as this cycle's SOL.
Or go on YouTube and search on "Top 10 Altcoins to Buy Now." Here's a result from one of the biggest crypto influencers on YouTube (which I haven't watched, so this is not an endorsement of its contents):
You might also write down every number from 2 to 100, put them in a hat, and draw four. I'm serious. Whatever four altcoins you choose based on recommendations you get here, four randomly chosen altcoins from the top 100 by market cap are likely to do just as well in the coming mania phase.
You may not have lived through it, but we are about to experience the dot-com boom all over again. Only this time instead of Pets.com, we get MOO DENG (which just got listed on Coinbase, by the way). In a year, it will likely be worthless. But between now and then, it will probably make some people very rich.
