Virtual Currency - Alt Coin Discussion Thread
I wanted to post a different thread to discuss the "crypto-coin" boom that happened this week.
For those who don't know, crypto-coins (or alt coins) have exploded in popularity among the bitcoin crowd. Some coins have gone from 5-10 cents to 2-3 dollars, making early investors millions. The market caps have gone from $500,000 being significant to the same coins have 20-30 million in market cap just two weeks later.
While alt-coins have long been a favorite of the "pump and dump" crowd - much like penny stocks - it's been their popularity in China this week that have many thinking if the run can be more sustained.
Even more, some (like WorldCoin) have financial services coming out that will allow direct crypto-fiat transactions...much like Coinbase is for bitcoin.
Anyway, I really wanted to get a good discussion going here of these coins. Full disclosure: after staying FAR away from alt coins this summer I recently jumped in to three that I like a lot and think they have a lot of long-term potential: WDC, Megacoin, and Peercoin. I'd love to hear what coins others like and the reasons why!

I remember it hovering just inside or outside the top 10. See https://coinmarketcap.com/historical/202...
if there's no real world usage for the token then price will be zero
it's a worthless payment/reward system because if it holds no utility then receivers will just try to sell and there'll be no market for selling it because who in their right mind would want it?
The tokenomics of the coin, not token, so lets be clear, creating a token first subERC20 or Sui. Then my own poker ecosystem (Coin) once I actually know what I am doing, tokenomics will involve me becoming Isai Scheinberg from Poker Stars and booking 5Billion. So I might mint 7Billion and not list on a dEX until I have an actual product to find the best mathematicians on the planet and take them to Mars.
So I am not going to list on a dEX, I'll just build my own dex at that stage. hehe
Nope, I say the price is Tulips, the price is Tulips. This is how crypto works right? Create a token, invest $200, pump the token, create money out of thin air, that money moves up CMC into Bitcoin.
On a srs note: I'm not ready for gamification, incentive, supernova, rake back yet.
It's just math to start with via play money. But I will eventually need to look into the economics of the coin.
Oh, yeah, this would be incredibly complex and novel. It is a good goal to aspire towards though.
When the meme craze ends (IF Ever)...Still believe in COTI. They have created a privacy feature called garble circuits. It's about 10 cents today, and the tokenomics are 2 billion. Small Israeli crypto tech company, they are doing alot. I hope they get mainnet up and running in the next 2-3 months. This could be like ADA going to $3 during a crazy bull run. I have fingers and whole body crossed for this. Stay Coti!!!

it has begun
thanks will look into it.
Congrats to any fartcoiners. We are ripping. Up to 30cents now.
Below it’s TGE initial price does not inspire confidence.
I could see DOGE being integrated with X. I don't think Elon is going to let DOGE die. I'm hoping that he pumps PNUT again.
I have no idea what the utility of these coins is (I'm guessing nothing), but $TITS has a market cap of 230M. Meanwhile, $ASS is only at $6M. Haven't been in crypto in years but I'm struggling to see how $ASS wouldn't start closing the gap in this eternal debate.
While I'm sure y'all agree this theory is basically foolproof, I should point out that this isn't financial advice.
I love the bull market. You can just throw money at $ASS, $TITS, or $FART and crush.
Great thesis on $ASS
arb opportunity if i've ever seen one. even after poker is solved, great minds of 2p2 continue posting free alpha. thanks chuck.

I move 100% to SOL several months ago...
I'm not sure if this question is best asked here or on the bitcoin forum so I may double post; apologies in advance if that's considered bad form.
During the pandemic I got interested in & read a lot about bitcoin & crypto in general, and decided to invest about 2% of my net worth in crypto, primarily as a hedge/insurance against massive inflation. I told myself I was going to buy a specific dollar amount, and then not buy more and not look at it for 5-10 years. My understanding then (and now) was that BTC & ETH were the two coins I should primarily invest in, and everything else was pretty much a Vegas-style gamble. So I have two questions:
1) I initially bought more or less equal percentages of BTC & ETH, and since my last purchase a few years ago I haven't kept up w/ what's going on in the crypto world. Should I continue to hold on to my ETH, or should I sell it & reinvest the proceeds into BTC?
2) Regarding my shitcoins: I only bought a couple of grand in the following coins so it's not life-changing money either way, but what is the smart move--should I continue to hold any of the following coins (and if so which ones?) or sell them all & buy & hold BTC?
Solana
Aave
Cardano
Uniswap
Polka
Lightcoin
Tezos
Polygon
Injective Protocol
TIA for all replies!
Anyone buy Chillguy?
edit- This is what I would keep if I were you.
BTC
ETH
SOL
SUI
XRP
ADA
TON
DOGE
FWIW these are my biggest holds in order right now. I'll unload the MEMEs later but they are hot now so still keeping.
BTC
SOL
SUI
DOGE
ADA
TON
XRP
ETH
WIF
BONK
PEPE
SHIB
FLOKI
Also threw a little on things like BRETT, PNUT (SOL and ETH)
edit - dup
Pride - sell all your shitcoins except SOL. If you actually bought Injective when it launched then you are up nearly 25x on the investment and your SOL should be up huge as well.
If these are truly longterm investments then get a little more BTC, and.a little more ETH and SOL for layer-1 exposure, stake them and forget about it for awhile.
Floki getting listed on Coinbase today.

alt szn seems to be kicking in
Are altcoins any better than pure gambling at this point?
What do you guys think the most hated alts are? Can't think of anything more hated than HEX which is despised by people on both reddit and X alike. Led by an obvious brash scammer like Richard Heart and still seems to have die hard cultists left.
