2025 equity portfolio

AMZN GOOG MA NVDA COST;
AAPL APP META MSFT BKNG, with a top 2, next 2, and then next 6 all about the same.

Right below: APO WMT VRT BRK/b & TJX. Should probably not own anything else /only-half-joking.

The two new names in 2024 were APP and VRT, which did quite nicely with APP quadrupling, I've sold it down 2x thus far.

5 of the top 10 I've owned over 10 years. Top 10 names are 55% of my equity holdings. They rose ~53% last year.

Sold out of long-term gains in ADBE and LVMH last year, and Colgate this year.

My largest IRA over 10 years has done 328% vs 242% SP Index. Without NVDA, META, GOOG, MA or COST, it was up 33% last year.

My biggest winner since August is HOOD, up 383%, was up around 120% YTD last time I looked.

Current top 11 is: AMZN, GOOG, MA, NVDA, META, HOOD, TMDX, MSFT, BKNG, NFLX, APP. The bottom 6 of those are all approx the same.

IRA is up 36.6% vs 14.1% on SPX for past 12 months.

$AEO, as posted in the trading thread, has gone from $12 to $20 as easily as any stock I've ever analyzed and purchased.

Taxable: 80/20. 80: VOO, VTI, VO (slight mid-cap tilt) / 20: BND, VCLT, VWOB, EDV, PFF (PFF is a preferred stock ETF and could be considered an equity rather than fixed-income position)

Roth is where I dabble in individual stock gambling. Tax free short-term capital gains, even though I usually hold individual stocks long.

Roth: 80% VTI, VO (heavier mid-cap tilt)

15% QS (QuantumScape) which is up quite a bit for me... the solid state battery field is made up of a trail of tears going back many decades, but Toyota is sticking to its 2028 goal of in-production buy it on the lot electric vehicles powered by their in-house solid state batteries. Toyota not only hasn't changed their timeline, they're starting to announce pretty shocking mileage estimates of 625 to 950 miles per charge.

QuantumScape has a financial runway up to about 2029 before an equity offering or another OEM partnership. They're partnered with Volkswagen currently, and Volkswagen has been throwing in more cash lately.

5% SLDP (SolidPower) they're just selling their solid state battery tech. It's more of a takeover or patent play.

My top 10 stocks - the majority of my portfolio - are up an average +56.5% YTD. I've held all names since before Jan 1.

Last year my top 11 holdings did 53.6%.

[My 11th name this year which I bot in Feb is up 114% since purchase and is not a tech name.]

$24 as of this morning. Nice double in 4 months.

This has been an absolutely spectacular year in the market. Unbelieveable really. While my core portfolio is just vanilla etfs like SPY, QQQ, MDY specialty etfs (VIG, AIQ, XLU) etc. But the speculative portion did way better than imagineable. Doubles and triples were abundant. Did a lot of covered calls that got called, got in better after the fact and and called again and some of those are in better yet again. Great year for trading and scalping. Plus my hedges pre April selloff payed for the rest of the crappy hedges I did the reast of the year. With a basically passive year I had a great year for a "retired" trader 😀

The stuff I was playing? ASTS, INOD, RGTI, VST, VRT, QUBT, VSAT, SMR, MP, USAR, FRO, GEOS. Some others as well. Most of this stuff is smallcap and trendy (AI, power, software etc.). Some of the moves were riduclous.

Settled down to an avg of 49.3% in the final month, obviously still happy with that performance.

AEO is now up to 11th, up 117% since my initial purchases this summer.

The name that had been in 11th cooled off to only up 78% in 2025.
