Show Us The Fake Money During Heads Up at Final Tables

When I watch the World Poker Tour final tables on television, they make a big deal when play gets to heads up. They bring out giant trays full of $100 notes, and put them on the table.

I've always wondered, is this money real or fake? Is it real US currency that you could spend at the grocery store, or is it just a fake television prop?

They rarely zoom up close enough to tell during the shows.

I found this picture today, and I can tell this is bogus fake money.

The Franklin picture looks wrong, and the "100" large numbers on the right is missing the green treasury stamp.

Is it the same for World Series of Poker events and other big tournaments?

For World Series of Poker events, they show armed guards with shotguns walking with the money to transport it.

I think it's stupid to "act" like that, when the money is just a prop.

In 2 years time the currency used will be Bitcoins.

incorrect

Who cares and why. It is a TV production. Plus if the players are going to do a private chop so they are not playing for the money, why use real money.

^ that

It's a TV production.

The logistics of carrying that much money on set would require a large high profile security detail that would cost a good chunk of what the money is worth.

An Ocean's 11 style heist of the cash at the main event final table could really create some buzz for the WSOP:

Rusty: I need the reason. Don't say money. Why do this?
Danny: Why not do it?
[Rusty shakes his head]
Danny: Because yesterday I walked out of LA, right after they said FU to the players and moved the TOC there. Then I tried to pawn my bracelet to pay for the flight home and the pawn shop said it was the type of jewelry they give away for eighth grade graduation.
[pause]
Danny: Because the house always wins. Play long enough, you never change the stakes, the house takes you. Unless, when that perfect hand comes along, you bet big, and then you take the house.

Back in the day it wasn't a TV production. The WSOP was a point of prestige and promotion for Binion, and that meant putting out real money.

Remember this was the same guy who had a million dollar display out near the entrance to the casino, made up of real 10,000 dollar bills. Which were themselves rare by then, and probably worth more than face value.

You might want to note we have been discussing WTP not WSOP. For all I know WSOP still does bring out real cash.

OP specifically asked about WSOP as well, son.
