Pokerrrr2 Bots Exposed?? (5th September)
Late on the evening of the 5th September hundreds of alleged bots were exposed in real time on Pokerrrr2
At the exact same time hundreds of accounts across almost all the big clubs posted a message on club walls stating that they were a bot
Shortly after an account on Facebook and Twitter made the following statement
What happened in the pokerrrr 2 clubs?
Every bot account that was operated remotely posted the same message. It's not the app that was compromised. It's not a spam. This campaign was initiated to make sure we demonstrate the scope of the problem.
Are you sure all these accounts are bots?
Yes. We gained temp control over bot management system, including chat module. All these accounts were "instructed" to post what we wanted to post.
Why did you do that?
We wanted attention to the problem. We think it was the best way to achieve this goal.
How can you prove it?
First, we feel that the identical message from multiple accounts is a sufficient proof. See attached a screenshot of web application that this group used. Note that we have a lot of information to process, it'll take some time to get this sorted.
Your next steps?
We will provide further updates on a daily basis.
Club owners
If you saw your players were posting this message, send me an email (you can find it in the about section in the facebook group) and we will find a way to help you address this problem.
Players
We would prefer all further communications via email. Please note also some delays are possible, but we will make sure to respond to everybody.
The motivations behind the hack are unclear at this stage
I made an Alias on drivehud2 for the accused accounts for the two clubs where I have played the most volume. (I exclusively play PLO4 so the following graphs are exclusively from PLO4 games)
Both Aliases have identical preflop tendencies and massive win rates.
The majority of club owners have continued business as usual without addressing the possibility that their games have been infested with bots.
Following this event I conducted a little bit of independent research. It didn't take too long to find a company that manufactures public facing and custom bots that match the description of the accounts seen on pokerrrr2.
As someone who has made a decent amount of $$ playing online poker and in particular on the various applications the future seems rather bleak.
