Gyorgyi's Wager

Gyorgyi's Wager

Gyorgyi's Wagers a philosophical argument advanced by twenty-first-century poker player and self-described mentalist Gyorgyi (EPT Monte Carlo satellite qualifier) that posits that it's good to run crazy bluffs from time to time because money runs out but 72o lasts forever.

I actually was thinking about that argument 3 days ago.

If you are playing heads up and your opponent shoves and you have 4.7 big blinds and 78 offsuit it is a Nash Call.

It's tempting to think do I really have to call with this piece of crap.

But, the reason you have to call, aside from pot odds, is the next hand you might get dealt 23, then 28, then 39.... and then your stack is gone.

The reason he should run the 72o bluff is because it's hilarious, and if it gets through, the fact that he made the play lives on forever. I was watching this tournament live. He won his seat in a ten dollar satellite. He was playing super tight for hours. Then the moment presented itself and he did what needed to be done. Probably my favorite televised hand.
