Mental State/Preparedness and Success

Read an interview about how Garrett Adelstein won't play if he's feeling off or not positive about his coming play. I've also noticed a correlation between some of my best results and a positive attitude and mental state. I was also in a terrible mode yesterday and was thinking about his quote. Of course I didn't listen and signed up for 3 online tournaments and in 2 of them made bad decisions within the first 2 hours and busted.

Anyone else experience this? Do you not play? Do something to reset?

Its is correlation but not causation? Anecdotal?

I won't play if I am in a bad mood, ill or even just because I am bored. For me the reason to play has to be to have fun and learn something if I can and my results are a lot better when I stick to that.

I have played when angry and it usually ends with me playing hands I wouldn't usually play or being overly aggressive.

Mental state has a lot to do with playing well. I've noticed that when I start getting anxious because let's say I'm playing way later than I normally do I don't enjoy it as much. If I'm thinking of other things, where I can't be fully focused on playing my best then I know it's time to pick up & go.

I've actually moved away from tournaments now. I just don't have the time to commit to them and it was another added stressor I didn't need. I still need to monitor my head going in but I am doing way better at ring games now and I was always better at MMTs in the past. I'm guessing its that I can size up a 1-2 hour session better and be prepared. I'm not rushing or doing it at times that don't work well for my clarity and focus. Glad I switched
