THE Official 2024 PGA Tour Season Thread
I don't have a fancy OP or anything. But now that we are in 2024, and are back to calendar schedules instead of the reach-around schedule, its time for a new thread.
I'm a big Tiger fan, and I must say, the dude has game, has the athleticism and power needed, seems calm like DJ, and clutch. If there are no major changes in his life he will continue to win.
Definitely has game and is now making putts. Although it's the best heater since Tiger, as golfers we should all know it's a cruel game and eventually the hot streak will end.
It is weird looking back Tiger had periods of bad play because he was going through a swing change or injuries because he trained so hard. I doubt either of those things happen to Scottie.
went to the Korn Ferry event today
followed Sam Bennett going out and Cole Hammer coming in. nice eagle for Hammer on his #18 to post a 63 (good for T-2)
a 15-year-old posted a 67 (story in link)
I live close to the course for this weeks Veritex tournament, and talked the wife into hosting a golfer and caddie in our home. He is playing the pro-am right now, and has a PM tee time tomorrow then AM Friday. Charles Porter, nice guy. Gives me someone to follow the next two days. And they give free tickets for the tournament for hosting, so that's a bonus
very cool
yeah, i was speaking to a lady that was following a player in the group i was tailing and she said her husband and her were hosting one of the players (and his caddie) in the group
Scheffler it too hot, too good ... amazing. I don't think he will have longevity at all. He gave an interview the other day that sounded ominous almost in that regard, almost like Payne Stewart saying "I don't know how much longer I have." I just think something is gonna derail an astounding career by Scottie. Would love to see him win some more Masters and other majors, but I think it's going to be more like Duval. He's on a UConn like run where everything is perfect for too long.
Will his idiosyncratic footwork lead to difficulties when he gets a bit older and his co-ordination isn't as good? His short game does seem to get him out of most difficulties right now and I suppose that might continue.

update on the 15-yr-old, Miles Russell. i reported his 1st round score off by a stroke
he finished T-20, -14 (68-66-70-66). he made bogey on his 72nd hole and didn't think that would be good enough to finish T-25 (or better) to auto-qualify for this week's Korn Ferry event in Texas. by the time he arrived back home in Jax, tho, he realized he indeed had qualified
he tees off in 6 hrs
he recently broke Tiger's record for youngest AJGA POY
here are his stock yardages:
This is the PGA tour thread.....
I walked past Miles near the putting green, told him to "Keep rocking and rolling" and he thanked me.
Zurich Classic odds after the Cut
There was some confusion at the Korn Ferry today. They were finishing round two and the golfer staying with us finished yesterday at -7. The cut line was projected -7 as the play was wrapping up this morning, then went to -8 with several groups still on the course. The final groups finished and the board continued to show -8, but I overheard some guys saying it was actually -7 because they do not count amateur scores in determining the cut line. Not sure if it was Miles or another amateur...
Then I heard some others saying it was -7 and when I told them I had a player at -7 at my house they told me to text or call him to come to the course, so I did. Later I heard a caddie complaining to an official about the confusion, his golfer was at -7 and thought he hadn't made the cut also. The official tried to explain how the confusion occurred but it went over my head. I heard one guy tell me they had a golfer at -7 who had already started driving home to Houston and they called him to turn around.
Embarrassingly I’m not 100% sure but I think I know what happened.
I was a little confused when I saw 7-under was T66 after two rounds and made the cut as the KF cuts to low 65 and ties. But there was an amateur at 11-under so I think that the cut line is determined as the low 65 professionals and ties seeing as how amateurs don’t get paid. So there was only 64 professionals at 8-under or better after 36 holes.
Regardless, with as many stud amateurs there are in fields now, the players should be completely aware of this and plan accordingly.
Yeah, I think your explanation is correct. Anyways, glad my guy got to play the weekend 😀
Zurich would probably be a decent tournament if half the field wasn't fringe PGA and Champions Tour players.
I read an article today about many of Sam Snead's victories being dubious in that they were unofficial at the time, exhibitions, 4-man fields, impromptu team games, and some other stuff. Tiger's the man on the 82 tie thing. All his are heavyweight wins ... and if you added in some of his off brand wins he's way out in front.
