THE Official 2024 PGA Tour Season Thread

I don't have a fancy OP or anything. But now that we are in 2024, and are back to calendar schedules instead of the reach-around schedule, its time for a new thread.

being that Brybaby's sand save originated from 55 yds out, we can estimate that the tour average for this distance (+/- a few yds) is probably around 20% - 25%

As a longtime golfer, fan of the game, and admitted conspiracy theorist.....I know this sounds crazy

I can't help but think Rory is purposely competitive but almost making sure he loses. He has all of the tools needed to win, he stays in shape, clearly a great striker of the ball, knows the game. It's like he bets the other side and just goes out there and makes it look believable. Problem is he doesn't really fit in the role as the guy who just can't get it done. He has 120+ top 10's. Golf

He has 2 wins this year, 2 last year, 3 the year before. The 2nd winningest player on tour over that span?? 26 wins over all. That's close to top 20 in history. He's trying not to win?

This might evolve into full major yips for Rory.

hell even tv announcers can do it

I like Rory, but I don't think he should have withdrew this week. After running off Sunday he shave have showed up at the Travelers, faced the media and won the golf tournament, instead he's going to hide and have the media talk about it for weeks. That mentality is probably why he hasn't won a major in 10 years.

If I'm Rory I might retire from pro golf forever after that loss. Lol at thinking he has some obligation to talk to the media.

Never said he has an obligation. But typically the runner-up would stay, congratulate the winner, speak to the media not speed away. Imagine if Byson did that after the PGA. Rory obv has anger issues and is know for throwing hissy fits.

Yeah I don't get all this 'He should of stayed behind to congratulate Bryson' or 'He should of talked to the media afterwards' or now play in the next tournament to cut all the media b/s.

Sure in an ideal world he'd do all this but if he did all this what he says will be nothing new. The guy is pissed, he just missed a couple of short putts, Last thing he wants to do he wait around and do all that ****.

Bryson didn't take any offence to it as far as I can tell but every other golf fan is,

Lets be real here, Very few of us know what sort of mentality he has and what sort of mentality it takes to 1. be a pro golfer and 2. to be one of the best around.

A different question I don't think people have asked though, Is why Rory took driver out on 18? I'm pretty sure he hit a wood off the tee on the previous days? (Could be wrong but I think that's what the commentators said).

Not to say this was the reason or anything and I know us AM's would do it, But lets say he was hitting his 3 wood pretty bad that day would he change his club selection because of that?

Meh, I don't blame him. Take a week off and chill out and start to prepare for the Open in a few weeks.

True, we don't. There are trends though. Calling a wedding off right before via text, filing divorce papers then calling it off 2 weeks later, trying to fight Bones, speeding away after losing the US Open and a bunch of other incidents. It's not like he's not contending in majors, he's right there in a bunch of them and failed to win for 10 years. Maybe he also needs to fire his BFF caddy and have someone that isn't a yes man..

What kind of comparables are there for Rory's high finishing in majors over such a long span without winning one, I'm wondering? Of course only a a few handfuls of greats could even possibly be eligible for this, finishing so high in majors so often. Looks like Rory missed one major in this 10 year stretch, so in 37 events played he has 11 Top 5's, 21 Top 10's. At first glance it looks like Mickelson is close, with maybe 9 top 5's and 17 top 10's over 10 years without winning.

Norman only having 2 major wins over a 20 year span or so with a ton of high finishes / opportunities and 91 pro wins has to be up there.

Another no cut birdie fest. Should be soft conditions tomorrow. Look for someone -6 of -7 to shoot 61 tomorrow to get in the mix, I'm picking Cantlay.

Either this:

That shot is more like 1 in 3, no harder than 1 in 4.

...or this:

Rory’s putt on 18 is roughly 75-80%, very rare on tour to have a putt that short starting outside the hole. Easily missable.

...is not correct.

Rory has every right in the world to pack up and leave w/o talking to the media or congratulating the winner.

I imagine if he did this every time he finished 2nd (which seems to happen a lot) it would be a very poor look, and he would not get any sympathy from the media or other players, who do face up the media win or lose almost universally.

Burning bridges is generally not a smart thing to do.

Scottie doing Scottie things

i can't believe Tom Kim plays at such an insufferable pace. no way he plays at this pace in the Dallas money games w Scottie, right?

I didn't realize he was that slow until watching this week. A few times I thought my TV froze.

Scottie has to be tired of all these incidents involving police.

Did any of the protestors tear their pants?

I also didn't know how slow TK was. Pretty oof.

I don't know if this Scheffler streak is historic or dubious. Weird things happen with thinned fields in all sports, it seems. He does have the two GOAT non-Tiger adjusted scoring average seasons going, it looks like. Maybe he's that good.
