Does Rory put the green jacket on himself?

Or is there an honorary green jacket put-er on-er?

If serious, the chairman does it, I believe.

Rory lucky nobody made any putts on the back 9.

You tournament golfers you don't hit 3-iron off the tee there?

He started playing fast after the putt at 16, like all the pressure came out of him. He looked casual.

What would Nicklaus, Tiger, Faldo, Hogan etc. hit off the tee there? Up 2 with a narrow fairway? Oh well, I lose all my bets and happy to do it. I wonder if he can get another one this summer or 3-peat next year?

I was serious. Thought they might ask Sheffler to do it.

Good for Rory. Rewind to 369 days ago and everyone would have said he has underdelivered on his promise in majors. Now without question, an all time great (was already one before the two green jackets). I think Rory still bags one or two more majors, and the question will be can Scottie eclipse him.

Yet again, crazy that Scheffler was one back after his Thursday-Friday.

Rose is probably the one most kicking himself, maybe Young. That 11-13 stretch for him was brutal at +2. Young got nothing out of his back nine, kind of regressed to the mean a bit after his otherworldly Saturday.

Brooks first then Scottie. Brooks is going to contend in a major this year and I'll be betting he wins one. If he gets a green jacket him and Rory are in the same category of all time great.

No guy without a career slam is in the same category as any guy with a career slam. Scottie is far closer to Rory than he is to Phil, Watson, Trevino, Palmer.

Brooks finishing 0-5-2-0 in majors would be funny. A unanimous first ballot hofer rn obviously despite also never winning the Players, API, Memorial or Fedex Cup.

Can’t be too many guys who’ve outshot the winner by 11 bogeyfree on a major weekend.

Delusional levels to think Brooks is in the same category as Rory, even if Brooks bags a sixth major which he is definitely a dog to do so.

I got Rose at +310 when he had the two shot lead early on the back 9. It might have been some kind of glitch. It was showing +200-something, but it balked, got hung up longer than I'd seen it before, and finally came back with a line moved the wrong way, up to +310. Got me. Yeah, I thought it might be his year after all his near misses, as with Rory last year. And he deserved it. Loved that bet. But he immediately went south.

I'm selling. Mickelson in particular is in the same category. And Koepka, Watson, Palmer, Sneed, Faldo. Amount of majors > having a bingo coverall.

Rory right now is not clearly above Phil or Faldo or Watson, I don't think. Not at all.

Rory vs Phil is a very interesting career debate.

Brooks is in neither players league for career.

really feel like rorys mid-short game was flawless compared to legit everyone else. where he was poor in his driving, rory just smashed and out executed everyone in the short game by FAR. everyone else hard choked putts and chips while nobody outplayed rory on any of those days in that are of the game

Neither trades for the other’s or considers it for a nanosecond fwiw.

I don't care about either
I assume rory will prolly win 1 more major in the next 5-6 years before he falls off major and if he does he is obv ahead of phil. assuming he stops ducking out of events.
right now because of the slam I think people saying he edges out phil arent wrong.

I have rory > Phil. also with the 2 players championships clearing phils 1 and slam I think its pretty clear in my eyes and should be for everyone else

IIRC in 2002 Tiger was allowed to choose. There was plenty of speculation he’d pick then fishing buddy O’Meara but he (wisely imo) picked the chairman, and I imagine that will always be the case now.

Jack put it on himself in 1966 after the chairman handed it to him. 18 hole Monday finish bumping up against Walter Cronkite, kinda chaotic.

https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2016/a...

In 1990, Hootie put it on Faldo.

I would bet a ton of money that Tiger was not allowed to choose as the precedent had been set for decades and Augusta National always does things their way. Not a chance would anybody be allowed in that ceremony other than the typical participants.

I mentioned before the ceremony yesterday that it would be weird having only one person sitting across from the chairman and Nantz instead of the typical three.

Rory's driving was fine:

3rd of the top 8 finishers in SG OTT

6th of the top 20 finishers in SG OTT

you're right about his short game carrying him to victory:

2nd of the top 20 finishers in SG ARG
