What'd You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)

I think this forum could use a BBV thread, so here it is.

Brag: Shot 80 today on my home course (par 72) - I'm a 12 handicap so this is a very good number for me.

Beat: Had a [censored] quadruple bogey on the easiest hole on the course. Stupid sand features.

Variance: Lost $3 thanks to the team game.

Played in a scramble close to Lake Erie yesterday and man was it windy. Only my 2nd time out this season (been focused on house projects). We shot -7 and I played fine. One guy in our group could have just stayed home and we still would have been -7.

There were 4 groups at -8 and apparently they had a playoff. Kinda glad we weren't at -8. I was ready to go home.

44-42-86. 2 birdies, 5 double bogeys. 73.0/142/6701 yards.

Downside of people knowing you had a really good round, they suggest you play further back. I have no business playing from 6700, but since I usually just play from whereever the rest of the group is playing (I'm fast enough, just very short), today it was more yardage on a much more difficult course. It was also windy enough to be a factor.

Ball striking was still mostly very good. I expected to have a lot more trouble than I did with the distance, I was able to reach most of the par 4s and didn't have to hit driver on any of the par 3s (despite the tees being set way back). The slider on luck was dialed way down, though, as I got some crazy bounces.

Had a few short game issues -- it drives me absolutely berserk when the people I play with stand in my line of sight when I'm trying a difficult pitch or sand shot. I whistled one past the head of a guy standing by the pin when I caught it a little thin, but he never ****ing learns. Putting was mostly bad, though obviously I did make a couple putts for birdie.

lol, GHIN wacked another stroke off my index for yesterday, a "-1 exceptional score adjustment". I guess that's one way to be a single digit again.

Played a lot of bad golf over the weekend.

Friday was alright as I shot my handicap through 9 holes.

Saturday was a long day. Played in a medal was over by the 6th as lost 2 balls off the tee I just couldn't be bothered. Had a good stretch of holes from about the 10th to the 16th but then ended poorly.

Then right after that lost 4&3 in a match. Had to give the guy 11 shots. I was playing poor and he was playing decent. Had a couple of good holes. Birdie one of them and he got a Par for the halve.

Sunday, Front 9 level Par back 9 +5 ... Mainly one blow up hole that caused me to get a triple.

Today, Went to one of my other locals and played terrible found every bunker possible. Think I was about +23 or something in the end. Not great. However, I thought lets try and get something out this round and tried to fix the hook shot. Little grip change and not saying I've fixed it but it's looking promising now. I had a 270 drive whilst playing there and probably 1 or 2 260's.

Then me and couple of mates decided to play 9 holes this evening at my local and it went really really good. Missed one green and even that was on the fringe on a 200 yard par 3. Had a 280 drive granted it was down wind this was on a par 5 and hit a rescue to pin high just off the green, Birdied that. Small par 3 hit it to about 4 feet knocked that in for birdie. 8th knocked in a long range putt for birdie. 9th good tee shot, Meh approach but was on the green and ended up 3 putting for -2 sadly. It's like night and day from earlier though.

42 (par 35). 1 birdie, 1 double bogey, 1 quad.

Good ball striking, other than a pulled hybrid that resulted in a lost ball. Well above average chipping and pitching. Bad putting.

Had a truly off round for me yesterday, 40-39-79. Score does not begin to show how I played.

Four bogeys on the front, nothing too dramatic.

Hit ball in the woods on 10, then miss the green from 214y out. Get up and down for bogey.

Sail the green on 11 and make bogey.

Hit tee shot off of a tree on 12 and goes in the water, make double.

Then the rest--------

Hit tee shot in water on 13 (par 5), 3rd I lay up to 125y, 4th to 6 feet and make it for par.

Routine par on 14.

15 I hit ball in the water off of the tee. Drop and have 194 in. Good 5 iron to 25 feet and make it for par.

16 and 17 routine pars.

18 I top the ball off of the tee but it probably runs out over 100 yards. Hit 2nd to 125y out. 3rd to 15 feet and make it for birdie.

tl/dr - Start out +8 thru 12, then hit it in the water twice and top a drive and still finish -1 over the last 6 holes.

Only got 9 in on men's night before the storms chased us off. Could have continued but didn't. 41, just 5 bogies. Hit the ball very nice, putted like an absolute arse.

1st tick of the summer pulled out of my leg good start 😡

45-41-86. No birdies, 3 double bogeys, 1 triple bogey. 70.3/133/6100

The difference between a decent round and meh is keeping the bad holes to bogeys. I had way too many others. And it wasn't just one thing, it was a mix of bad course management, bad luck, poor execution and general mental midgetry.

#5, long par 4. I can reach it, maybe, if I'm in the fairway. Requires a long carry to do it. Hit a poor drive, left into waste area. Draw a clean, flat lie. Can't go for the green, no angle and everything funnels into a deep, deep bunker. No problem hitting a hybrid down the fairway into perfect shape 50 yards short. Wedge is a little too strong, hits just past the hole and bounces like it hit concrete, leaving a nasty double breaking 40 footer for par from the back of the green. Predictable 3 putt after I blow the first one 8 feet past. Double.

#6, par 5. Stripe a drive right down the center. Hybrid for second to a perfect spot, 145 out, uphill. Pull 4 iron about six feet left of my intended line, bounces left off the green into a deep bunker. Get it out but not quite on, leaving an awkward stance. Chip to 4 feet, miss. Double.

#9, par 4. Pull drive, kicks dead left directly against a tree trunk. Take a drop in super thick rough. Chop it out to 155. 4 iron to front edge, 15 feet from pin. 2 putts. Double.

Things are going along better on the back, until ...

#16, very long par 4. I generally cannot reach it and there is a massive waste area/cross bunker so I usually lay up short of that. Good drive, pull hybrid just a hair which is fine for line but makes it go a bit farther ... about six inches too far. Through the fairway, not quite into the waste area but directly into a hole. ****. I should have taken an unplayable, but instead I gave it a go, dumped it in the sand and close to the face. Got it out but not close to the green, hit a lousy pitch to 20 feet and was lucky to 2 putt. Triple.

43-41-84. 1 birdie, 3 double bogeys. 70.1/124/6149 yards

Not a good ball striking day at all. Made a putter change, went okay I guess.

Finished in hilarious fashion. The last hole is a long (400+ yard) par 4, the bane of my existence. Hit my worst tee shot of the day, a pop fly to right field deep into the junk and likely unfindable. Hit a provisional, was probably my best tee shot of the day. Could not find the first ball so I'm playing the provisional. Still had 210 left, uphill. Ball is sitting up, perfect lie. I know that my score is going to count for the team game. Pull out the driver anyway, hit it absolutely dead solid perfect. Ends up 2 feet from the cup. One putt later I have one of the better and more unlikely bogeys I've ever made.

Golf is stupid.

absolutely it is
once made birdie from 150 on a par 3

First 18 hole round of the year, 108. One par, three bogies but it was a beautiful day anyway

45-41-86. No birdies, 3 double bogeys. 70.3/133/6100 yards

What a shame to waste a really good ball striking day. Made a small swing adjustment and it paid off in spades, got back to hitting it flush with better trajectory. But horrible short game play gave away shots left and right.

Of interest only to me, my fourth consecutive round of 86 at this course. Many different ways to accomplish the same lousy result.

+23 6100 yards but a pretty tight forest course. Very undulating made it a tough walk on a hot day. Round this track I should be going under +10 pretty easy.

My golf game or lack of golf game is so annoying at the moment. I'm just fearing the left shot all of the time, Just so destructible to the score card when it does happen. Think I'm going to have to teach myself how to hit a cut.

51-36.

Out of body experience on the front. Cold topped 6 tee shots and lost 4 balls on the first 3 holes, was 11 over thru 3.

Even par on the back, one bogey one birdie.

Golf is funny.

46 (par 36) on Tuesday. 1 birdie, 2 doubles, 1 triple.

Awful putting. Ball striking wasn't as sharp. Tuesday golf.

+6 today which is around 3 over my handicap around my local track,

Whilst it wasn't great it was a lot better than usual.

Had 2 blow up holes that ended with 2 triples which happened within the first 6 holes. So was good to keep it together and finish on that score.

2 triples, 1 bogey, 1 Birdie

Greenkeeper chucked a load of sand on the greens the other day, kept on leaving those knee knockers 3-6ft, I was solid didn't miss one and I think I had about 10 or so within that range. So 1st putt pretty bad for the most part and 2nd putt solid.

38-42-80. 2 birdies, 2 double bogeys. 68.1/116/5900 yards

Other than a sloppy double-double finish it was a decent round. Not great given that it's a relatively easy course, but decent.

how can we adequately tap into the mental stamina well available to us and finish strong

47-40-87. No birdies, 4 double bogeys. 67.8/126/5600 yards.

If there were a shots gained 30-100 yards statistic, I would have been about -20. An absolutely awful display. (ETA for Red, did get up and down for pars on the last two holes, so at least there was that)

almost always something positive to build upon

55/9 holes. One bogey. I'm getting worse the more I play. At least I got a taco.

9 holes tonight, Level Par. 2 bogeys 2 birdies.

1 really bad drive that I got lucky with and was able to manage a hook up the Par 5 fairway to give me a shot into the green.

7 out of 9 greens hit, 1 missed on a long par 4 where I just went through the back, Other one was a chunk wedge shot which landed short in the bunker.

Hopefully I can continue this,

After a season full of unmentionable scores I carded 42 with 19 putts from the forward tees at an easy course (2600 yards, playing with some beginners) last week, then shot a 47-47 94 with 33 putts on a tough course from 6600 yards. Happy to see at least some progress.

Playing 9 from the forward tees was lots of fun, with opportunites to go for the green on a couple par 4's and reachable 5's. I should do that more often, especially since my driver distances are not in line with my irons - why am I hitting a 7i 180 on the fly/200 total but only hit driver 230 yards if I'm lucky? Skill issue obviously.

I was kicking myself for not playing the forward tees yesterday -- it's the one set of tees at this course I have not played and we had one player using those tees anyway so I wouldn't have been slowing things down. Perfect opportunity.
