What'd You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)
I think this forum could use a BBV thread, so here it is.
Brag: Shot 80 today on my home course (par 72) - I'm a 12 handicap so this is a very good number for me.
Beat: Had a [censored] quadruple bogey on the easiest hole on the course. Stupid sand features.
Variance: Lost $3 thanks to the team game.

congrats on the fall golf rounds for those enjoying them
any plans for game improvement over the offseason or just forget and dust off the clubs next spring to discover what carried over?
im on a fairly consistent regimen of exercise, PEDs(physically enhancing dishes), and laziness.
I've never managed to do any work on my game in the offseason, though now that sims are becoming pretty common I might actually swing a club now and then. Mostly need to make some physical changes but we'll see if I can drag my lazy ass to the gym on a consistent basis.
I only picked up the clubs 3 months ago for the first time in 12 years. As such, I obviously never had a “winter regimen” but I’m likely going to do something now. I may join a simulator league. We’ll see. Have tee times Friday and Saturday, so no need for a simulator yet!
Last week of Mens club here. Played ok, and won my match, but it was not enough and we ended up losing 5-7. We teed off at noon, and finished with just a few rays of light left.
Going to take some lessons in the offseason. Still warm enough here to play, but without the Tuesday night commitment, I can't say I'll be out there every week. Def going to work out, practice putting indoors, etc.
stunning photograph
when i play it's most often in the morning, and i often forget how beautiful sunset golf can be.
good luck on your winter adventures jef
Best score of the year. Haven't played this course since at least 2012. 87(44/43) on a 71(35/36) that is 6350. Not sure the slope rating, but it's definitely easier than the course I've played the majority of my rounds on. My guess is 122 or so.
2 birdies, 5 pars, 5 bogeys, 5 doubles and a triple. Played the 4 par 3s -1 and rimmed out a 3rd birdie on another par 3. 37 putts. 5 3-putts, 4 1-putts. Was throwing darts with my 9 iron. The 2 birdies I made were both within 5 feet. Greens were really hairy and slow and bumpy. Total contrast from the course I typically play. 4/14 fairways. 8/18 greens. Hit my irons very well. Finally slowing down and finding a nice tempo. Terrible with the rattling driver. 2 of the 4 fairways I hit were with 3-wood off the tee on shorter holes. Cancelled the tee time for tomorrow as it's gonna be too cold, but it looks good Friday. I have already taken off work for my anniversary, but my wife loves working in the yard so here's to hoping she tells me to get lost for 4 hours while she putzes around in the unseasonably warm weather.
42-41-83. No birdies, 2 double bogeys. 70.3/133/6100
Weird ballstriking day. Hit it inconsistently on the front, on the back I found something with the woods and hybrids but I could not hit an iron to save my life.
Possibly my worst scoring round of the year. Never played this course before. Was in much better shape than the place I was +16 2 days ago. 6,200 yards par 72 (70.3/129). +27 (99=51/48). Played 12 holes +7, the other 6 +20. 5/12 fairways. 8/18 greens. 41 putts. Short game was terrible. 5 3-puts, 0 1-putts. Swing is getting more consistent. Have played 18-20 rounds since I dusted off the clubs 3 months ago. Friday looks good for 1 more round. After that it's going to be tough to keep OldManWinter at bay. Can't wait for next summer so I can play Every. Single. Day.
concerted effort to get beter is likely all it will take bigez
just gotta be intentional about how you spend the time
Playing a stroke play tourney today and was off to a very annoying start through 6 holes. One great way to address that is to ace the 7th! First lifetime ace.
Sadly didn’t see it go in; elevated green and lip of the short right bunker blocks the view of the green where the flag was.
cheers mate! that's fantastic
nice ace! congrats. high 5.
Thanks guys!!
Bastard!
Er, I mean, congratulations! That's fantastic.
Awful today. Only hit it worse maybe once in my 20 rounds. Shot 97 at this par 71 2 months ago for my first sub-100 round. 104 (+33) today. 52/52. 6300 yards. 36 putts. Ended par, par or it would have been worse. Totally disgusted. Hit maybe 4-5 good shots all day. Gonna play Sunday for the last time this season at the same place. Cannot end like this. So bad.
friendly reminder golf is not your occupation it's a hobby
the only pressure to succeed is applied by you
adjust it as you deem appropriate but recognize a valid option is always to turn it off and just have fun slapping a ball around
remembering the good shots
Was ready to "turn it off" after hooking yet another drive on 16 and being told by a guy we were paired with, who plays there all the time, that it was gone. OB. So, hit another one. Snap left into the woods. 3rd, snap left into the woods. No more balls in my pockets so I was done. Walked up to where the original landed and found it just inches from OB. Played it. Made bogey. Hit 5-iron 185 yards onto the par 3 17th and just missed the long birdie putt and made par. Hit a drive hard and pure but right that was fine on the 510 yard par-5 18th, then a 5-wood to within 20 yards in the right rough. Hit a chip a bit stronger than I wanted onto the green, but 2-putted for another par. Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in. Playing again Sunday. Most likely for the last time this season.
43-40-83. No birdies, 2 double bogeys. Rating and slope irrelevant as the course had removed the tee markers so it was a guess. Probably about 6,200 yards.
Mostly mediocre but fine, wedges were bad. Probably the last full round of the season, might sneak out for a few holes here and there if the snow holds off, but not many of the guys I play with are likely to walk 18.
but you walked 18 holes in the throes of peak michigan november weather
jealous
Gotta be last round of the season. Back at the same place today, although we played the back tees last time which adds maybe 250 yards. By myself today. All the tee markers are gone, so I just played the USGA markings. 6,035 yards 36/35/71 (69.1/121). +16 (90=47/43). 36 putts. 5/12 fairways. 4/18 greens. 4 3-putts (2 for bogeys....infuriating), 4 1-putts (2 were up-and-down pars so I guess it evens out). One hole into the sun, I hit my drive and never, ever saw it. It felt left, but who knows. So, I hit another one. Made par on that ball, but took double cuz I lost that first ball. Made triple on the last hole. Annoying.
Round perfectly encapsulates who I am as a golfer at this point; capable of making some very good moves at it, but very inconsistent. Bad with the chipping and bleh with the putter. I'd peg myself as about a 23 handicap. I can live with that. Hope to be sub-15 by the end of 2025.
Should be +19. (Math is hard.) Was +16 going into the final hole, which was tied with my best result of the season. A tee shot into the woods ended any hopes to tie my best round of the year.
Sun City Riverview - Par 72. 69.8\119 only 6336 yards
40-34 - 74
What a weird round. Short, pretty easy course where the only real challenge is on the greens. And boy did they kick my ass early in the round. I was +5 thru 7 with only 1 missed green. 3-putts on #1, #3, #4, & #7(after missing the green), but then the fun started. A 90yd SW to 3' on #8 led to my first birdie, then a 115yd AW to 5' gave me a chance for back to backs but I lipped it out. After a routine par on #10, it was back to back birdies on #11(just off the green in two on a par 5) & #12(8 iron on a par 3 to 4'). A par on #13 was followed by another birdie on #14, getting me to -3 on the side. Parred #15 before a bogey on #16 stopped my run at -4 thru an 8 hole stretch. Pars on #17 and #18 put a nice little bow on a -2 back 9 and +2 overall.
