What'd You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)
I think this forum could use a BBV thread, so here it is.
Brag: Shot 80 today on my home course (par 72) - I'm a 12 handicap so this is a very good number for me.
Beat: Had a [censored] quadruple bogey on the easiest hole on the course. Stupid sand features.
Variance: Lost $3 thanks to the team game.
friendly reminder golf is not your occupation it's a hobby
the only pressure to succeed is applied by you
adjust it as you deem appropriate but recognize a valid option is always to turn it off and just have fun slapping a ball around
remembering the good shots
Was ready to "turn it off" after hooking yet another drive on 16 and being told by a guy we were paired with, who plays there all the time, that it was gone. OB. So, hit another one. Snap left into the woods. 3rd, snap left into the woods. No more balls in my pockets so I was done. Walked up to where the original landed and found it just inches from OB. Played it. Made bogey. Hit 5-iron 185 yards onto the par 3 17th and just missed the long birdie putt and made par. Hit a drive hard and pure but right that was fine on the 510 yard par-5 18th, then a 5-wood to within 20 yards in the right rough. Hit a chip a bit stronger than I wanted onto the green, but 2-putted for another par. Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in. Playing again Sunday. Most likely for the last time this season.
43-40-83. No birdies, 2 double bogeys. Rating and slope irrelevant as the course had removed the tee markers so it was a guess. Probably about 6,200 yards.
Mostly mediocre but fine, wedges were bad. Probably the last full round of the season, might sneak out for a few holes here and there if the snow holds off, but not many of the guys I play with are likely to walk 18.
but you walked 18 holes in the throes of peak michigan november weather
jealous
Awful today. Only hit it worse maybe once in my 20 rounds. Shot 97 at this par 71 2 months ago for my first sub-100 round. 104 (+33) today. 52/52. 6300 yards. 36 putts. Ended par, par or it would have been worse. Totally disgusted. Hit maybe 4-5 good shots all day. Gonna play Sunday for the last time this season at the same place. Cannot end like this. So bad.
Gotta be last round of the season. Back at the same place today, although we played the back tees last time which adds maybe 250 yards. By myself today. All the tee markers are gone, so I just played the USGA markings. 6,035 yards 36/35/71 (69.1/121). +16 (90=47/43). 36 putts. 5/12 fairways. 4/18 greens. 4 3-putts (2 for bogeys....infuriating), 4 1-putts (2 were up-and-down pars so I guess it evens out). One hole into the sun, I hit my drive and never, ever saw it. It felt left, but who knows. So, I hit another one. Made par on that ball, but took double cuz I lost that first ball. Made triple on the last hole. Annoying.
Round perfectly encapsulates who I am as a golfer at this point; capable of making some very good moves at it, but very inconsistent. Bad with the chipping and bleh with the putter. I'd peg myself as about a 23 handicap. I can live with that. Hope to be sub-15 by the end of 2025.

Should be +19. (Math is hard.) Was +16 going into the final hole, which was tied with my best result of the season. A tee shot into the woods ended any hopes to tie my best round of the year.
Sun City Riverview - Par 72. 69.8\119 only 6336 yards
40-34 - 74
What a weird round. Short, pretty easy course where the only real challenge is on the greens. And boy did they kick my ass early in the round. I was +5 thru 7 with only 1 missed green. 3-putts on #1, #3, #4, & #7(after missing the green), but then the fun started. A 90yd SW to 3' on #8 led to my first birdie, then a 115yd AW to 5' gave me a chance for back to backs but I lipped it out. After a routine par on #10, it was back to back birdies on #11(just off the green in two on a par 5) & #12(8 iron on a par 3 to 4'). A par on #13 was followed by another birdie on #14, getting me to -3 on the side. Parred #15 before a bogey on #16 stopped my run at -4 thru an 8 hole stretch. Pars on #17 and #18 put a nice little bow on a -2 back 9 and +2 overall.

that middle right titelist 2 with the faded sharpie putting line is a keeper
Been a while since I posted in here.
Achilles is sort of healing up slowly now. Still pretty tight when I wake up and after a round but it's way better than it was.
Unfortunately since the injury my golf game has fallen off the cliff. It's been about 4-5 months since it happened irrc. With the injury I think I learned a new way just to hit the ball which included a bit of a sway which isn't great. Handicap basically doubled since doing this think I was off around 7.7 in the summer up to like 13.1 now.
I did play today and I actually felt somewhat really good in terms of ball striking for the first time in months. Played a match vs a guy I gave 10 shots to and he went 3 up pretty quickly. He was hitting the ball really well. In the end I ended up winning 4&2. Other guy would of beaten me fairly comfortable if he could putt.
Driver needs a little work living in the heel area at the moment.
Getting that time of year where its not that enjoyable to play golf with the random crappy lies you get that comes with winter golf.
Playing again tomorrow so will see if I can continue this ball striking.
Other news I've become the vice captain for my club. They wanted me to become captain but I really can't be bothered with all that comes with it, Just not worth the time. I'd rather just help out where I can without the added responsibility.
Debating if I should ever play football/soccer again as much as I love playing I don't want to do my Achilles ever again..
Hope everyone is doing fine on and off the course and has a good new year!
Here's to 2025!
Conditions have been meh
Golf game coming back a little played 2 9 holes rounds this week both +1 each.
Today I played and the Driver hasn't been a good club for me in a while. It's been getting better but today I decided to go Fleetwood style and choke down on it and play these chippy little things. Turns out they go just as far as my normal drives if not more. The strike was fantastic on one of the holes and it went pretty far.
Wedge game I'm trying to change it up a bit and going lower loft normally around the greens I've been using a 60° which imo hasn't been bad but switching to a 54° for a bit to see how it goes so far so good.
Playing a half decent track on Sunday. Stupid 1st hole though, 220yard Par 3. Not really what you want for your 1st hole more so early morning.
hey UA, good to see you back out trodding the sod
remind me again which achilies you popped?
also curious where you're at to have those playing conditions
playing links or heathland courses, or more parkland stuff?
I never got it checked out (I know stupid) I don't know if I fully ruptured my Achilles tendon in my left leg, Whilst 6 months since I've done it is a long time I've heard a full rupture takes a full year to recover with treatment. Week by week I'm not noticing as much. Like I can play a round of golf now with no discomfort or pain, Even the small things like going down the stairs a bit quicker, Even the other day and it probably sounds silly but I jogged across the road and didn't think twice about it until after "I was like holy crap I just ran a little 😃 "
I'm from the South of the UK, Over the past couple of weeks had a lot of wind then it rained a lot then it got cold. My home course is considered a Parkland course but actually does alright with the weather, Unless we get a huge down pour it plays fine. Fairways getting bare though just a lot of mud in places and no grass.
Today we played a Parkland course built on chalk I think (Don't quote me on that) It's so good all year round though, It's called Meyrick Park. Greens were great. 16 of us went I think I got the short straw and got 2 of the worst golfers in the whole group 😃 They were fun to play with but one of them was hard work. Hit it alright but either straight left or right and always in the trees. He didn't finish 8 of the holes and had a bit of club throwing. It was drizzling a lot for most of the round so gave up trying to look for his balls. I hit it alright didn't really score well. Couple of birdies but +3 over my handicap.
thanks for the response...cheers mate.
Don't post in here too much any more but this one was probably worth of sharing.
Shoot +2 38 on the front with 8 pars and a double.
Then the back 9......
1 eagle
5 birdies
0 pars
1 bogey
2 doubles
34
Shot an even par 72.
well now we all want to know the story of the back 9 scott
+3 over my handicap today. Which is +7 around my course (76)
Was nice to put a semi decent round for once. Was sort of fortunate with holing some long putts for par and a chip in on top of that.
Drove it well.
2nd shots on Par 5's were terrible.
Irons were decent
Full Wedges were ok, Pitching was terrible, Chipping was good.
Putting ok as well had a few 3 putts.
Played with a guy similar skill level to me but he always beats me. Today though he wasn't at it. I've never seen him play so bad. Shanking a lot even with clubs like a rescue.
Played a comp on Saturday. Nothing to right home about. Was tough getting paired with a loud acholic. Literally turned up at 8am with a can of beer in his hand downed it and chucked it in the bin whilst making his entrance 😃 ..He's a nice guy just loud and doesn't think before he talks sometimes. Think its a matter of time before he gets banned from the club though which would be a shame imo.
10 - Tough par 3 over water and green sits at about a 33 degree angle against my fade. Put it in the shaved down area below the green. Next shot basically impossible with water over green. Can't go directly at the hole as there is a knob between my ball and green. Putt it to front of green, barely stays on, then two putt from there, bogey.
11 - Shortish par 4, hit hybrid to 150ish out. Dead into wind I hit 7 iron on about 30 feet away. Make it for birdie.
12 - 360 par 4, hit a 3 wood dray which seems to be a thing for me about once a round, into the trees. Find it but don't have a shot. Drop and 3rd goes into greenside bunker. Hit is on but miss the 10 footer, double.
13 - 480 par 5. Cut the corner with mini driver. Have 182 in and hit 5 iron on the fringe about 25 feet from pin. Make it for eagle.
14 - Short 330y par 4. Hit 3 wood and have a short iron into green. Hit it to 6 feet below the hole and make it for birdie.
15 - 385y par 4. 3 wood off the tee but not great. Have around 170 into the wind and flare iron left of green. About 5 feet off the fringe but bermuda is dormant and thin this time of year. Have about 60 feet with green sloping away and it falls off of a false front about 5 feet past the hole. Watch it roll by the hole and all the way off the green and it stops about 2 feet short of the water. Put it back on, then 2-putt for double.
16 - 160y par 3, hit it to 20 feet and make it for birdie.
17 - 360y par 4. Hit a good drive the the corner of dogleg. Hit 8 iron to about 25 feet and make it for birdie.
18 - 515y par 5. Cut the corner of the dogleg with mini driver and have 230 in. Playing a bit downwind and to the right. Hit best 3 wood approach in a while to a par 5 and it on the back fringe about 30 feet away. 2-putt birdie.

amazing
thank you for the follow up
