What'd You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)
I think this forum could use a BBV thread, so here it is.
Brag: Shot 80 today on my home course (par 72) - I'm a 12 hand
Okey dokey smokey.
Today's round started as bad as any I've had. Driver was fine but irons and chipping were horrendous - again. I went to the range yesterday and thought I had something figured out, but obviously not.
Shot a 55 on the front and felt terrible about it. Honestly I picked the ball up three times so my score was more than likely much worse. My father-in-law just stuck some numbers in. I was so frustrated.
Started hitting better on the back but still pulling my mid to long irons horribly. However, I got to 16 and I believe I figured something out. In my quest to hold the face open, I was strengthening my grip...by a LOT. I had the club squeezed so hard and it was somehow making me turn and close the face upon impact. I loosened it by quite a lot and hit my irons fine on the last three holes. This also might be why my chipping has been bad. I think I just have a death lock on the club and am not letting it do its thing. At least I hope this is the problem.
Anyway, shot a 46 on the back. Maybe not a huge difference scorewise but things felt a lot better all around. I did top my drive on 18 which left me 270 from the pin. Smoked a 3 wood to within 20 yards, straight at it. I guess I have to come back for another day.

just posted something in the golf vid thread you may find helpful
Was E thru 6 in my tournament yesterday, which I believe to be the deepest I've ever been even and if it isn't it is close. Tripled 7 and doubled 8, which was a backbreaker sequence. 8 is really tough, so that's closer to a bogey in spirit. I've taken up the habit of too many triples recently, simply have to clean those up.
Bounced back to an extent, only one double after that as part of a gross sequence on 12, 13, 14. Had a 3/4 gap wedge for my third on the par 5 12th and made bogey, had a pitching wedge for my third on the par 5 13th and made double, and had a 30 yard pitch for my second on the par 4 14th and made bogey. Then had a 6 iron in for my 2nd on the par 5 18th and pulled it into a native area but did salvage a bogey.
87 overall, which I would have instantly taken on the first tee, but felt like I left sooooo much out there.
still super early in the season. a lot about that should make you feel good
Definitely feel good about a lot of it! That was my 23rd round of 2026 though haha.
Thanks. I have to admit I get sort of overwhelmed with those sorts of videos. For one, I can't tell what I'm doing or not doing so it's hard from me to decide that I'm doing something wrong. I either need to watch myself on video or have someone like those guys tell me what I'm doing. I can't really tell from feel.
That being said, played a better round today. Maybe not scorewise but things felt better. My irons were considerably better and I think I figured out something with my medium to long chips that I've been mishitting. Wedges were stellar today. Driver was inconsistent but not worse than usual. Really my downfall is usually just not making solid contact here and there which puts me in a bad place to score well. 49 on the front with two absolute disaster holes mixed in with 2 pars and a birdie. No disaster holes on the back, just lots of bogies and doubles for a 47. 96 is better than I've shot in a bit and I'm encouraged by the swing improvement today.

1 birdie, FOUR doubles!. First time I've played in 3 weeks. Drove the ball terribly. Three of my doubles came from two OB tee shots and another into the water, leaving me hitting my 3rd shot from the tee. On the water ball I could've dropped a lot farther up instead of re-teeing and probably would've saved bogey instead of double, but whatever. After 8 3-putts on this course last time I only had 1 in this round, and it was from a terrible misread that was obvious once I looked at it from the other side of the hole. Chipping and putting was much better but my swing is a mess right now. I've let myself get too fat and out of shape and it's killing me on the course. Haven't broken 80 since Jan 4 and my index, like my weight, is slowly climbing.
happy to see the better results bb
hey ec, one question: so what you gunna do about it?
perfect
96(48/48) My usual round of great shots and total mishits. Still struggling with my grip on irons but I'll conquer that eventually. Driver mostly ok. Putting pretty good. Just standard sloppiness.
Hole of the day - par 5. Topped my drive. Hit the ground before the ball on my second shot with a 3 wood for about 120 yards. Smoked a 4 iron, but 30 yards left of the green. Chipped my fourth shot 5 feet short of the green. Putted it in for a par.

Decent driver today. Irons still need work but where manageable. Same with chipping. Putter was ON FIRE. No three putts. Only 1 miss less than 6'. I had 1 lip out and 3 end up 2 inches from going in from over 15'.

EIGHTY EIGHT!!!! (43/45)
First time to break 90.
WOOHOO!!!!
Feels good, man.
Awesome, congrats on the milestone.
Awesome, congrats!
I hit the stick on a par 3 with a 7w into a quartering against wind, bounced to like 3.5 feet. Nice par. [emoji58][emoji58][emoji58]
Did get a 2 on the card 3 holes later and backed that with another bird on the next hole, then lipped out a chip for what would have been 3 birds in a row.
atta boy biggerboat....we always knew you could!
first round of the season today, pretty sure i've played under 10 rounds over the past 16 months using my own ball, the rest in shambles
last summer my mental swing flailing devolved to the point of face so wide open at the top no amount of flip wilson or nipsy russell were gunna be kings of that sort of comedy
got a couple of lessons learned also started really trying to understand supination and what it can do to help in the process of moving balls forward with a club. what a beautiful experience when you do not try to hop on the swing train before it gets to the platform.
subsequently tore a few things off the swing set down to the studs
so currently playing with a safety blanket of a grip too strong moving closed faces with more of a body twist and an arched right wrist and tucked elbow while pounding nails into a wall with the back of left as the energy flows,
because it's less unpredictable while also not the other thing.
anyway

today we played 70.3/133 6190y par 71.
weather low 60's, mostly sun and wind down, thankfully the wet rough was mowed, greens healing from the punch drunk and top sand dressing hangover, guessing two weeks ago. was not able to roll anything on the practice green before we started, swung a driver twice on the range, did hit a few irons.
+12 on the front
2 pars (including the par 5 first) 2 bogies, no triples
0 FIR
2 GIR (par 5 & par 3)
18 putts, every hole 2
+9 on the back
2 pars, 5 bogies, no triples
3 FIR
0 GIR
16 putts, two 1 putts, no triples
+21 = 92
3 FIR
2 GIR
34 putts (no triples)
hit several shots solid, but committed too late in the day to the hard draw shape they were taking
bagged the driver at the turn and finally found a couple of fairways
never sniffed making a putt outside 8 feet, bumpy greens mixed with uneven pace
can't wait to try again
I cannot for the freaking life of me figure out how to hit the driver without collapsing the trail side and powering with vertical force from the lead leg.
Got me out on the range recording every swing until my phone and my watch run out of batteries, talking to myself. @#%!#^$!##$#$%!#$@#!

I don't know what any of this means and I'm kind of glad I don't. I try to simplify my swing thought to "see ball, hit ball", or "don't do that thing you do that makes it go right". If my mind is working any harder than that, I'll quit. Though tip of the cap to you and others who know way more than me about a golf swing and can process what you're seeing and feeling in a more detailed manner.

I agree. I like to go really deep when practicing, working on changes, improving - but when it comes to actually playing - I distill whatever I'm working on into two pre shot thoughts like "get your butt out of the way" or "doorknob hard".
I actually enjoy working on the swing more than I enjoy playing golf these days. Mostly because golf in my area has gotten busy and expensive - and my friends all have kids - so I end up going out alone 95% of the time. With nobody to hold me accountable, and cameras, net, and a launch monitor in my garage - the lazyness often wins.
Also - I figured out the issue fwiw. I just can't quite get my body to do it yet - especially at high speeds with the driver.
95(45/50) swung all clubs really well until 18 for my first triple bogey of the round. Putter just killed me. Missed 9 putts under 10'. Lipped out 3 long ones. A shame because I really hit everything else well. Didn't lose a ball.
85 at a major championship venue
10 over on the front
3 over on the back
Took a while to warm up the driver as it was too early to hit the range. The majority of stokes lost were off the tee w/ the driver.
The quality of iron strikes was the best I've ever had. I play Titleist 680 reissues, and was playing a Left Dot today, and the crispness of strike was what I dream about. Like - pure freaking bliss.
While the driver let me down from a scoring perspective (it's a work in progress) - I've not enjoyed a round of golf this much for a long, long time.
(For anyone interested - the key for me was figuring out how to get the right hip high in transition while getting pressure into my left side)

No birdies, 1 double. More of the same struggles from other recent rounds. Drove the ball better, but like the last time I played this course, I really struggled adjusting to greens that don't hold any spin and every shot releases. Even full SW's would release 20 feet or more. Three 3-putt bogeys, two of them starting off as birdie putts inside 20', with one being inside 4'. Tried to jam in a downhill putt and went 10' past. Not my proudest moment. No part of my game was truly awful so that part was encouraging and I did hit a handful of really good iron shots, I just didn't convert any of the birdie chances. We'll try again this Sunday morning.

Managed to avoid any lost balls and penalty strokes. Front was a little grindy but managed to keep the ball in front of me for the most part. Finished with 3 GIRs on the par 5/3/5 final holes. Beautiful course, golf itself is a decent challenge, nothing spectacular, but the scenery is something else. I've played this course several times and it's significantly punitive if you're out of position, so this is the best score here for me. Feels like a decent start to the season!
99(52/47) 4 pars mixed in with a bunch of doubles and a couple disasters. Just didn't hit the ball well. Putter bailed me out several times.
I don't think I've posted in here in a while. It's been pretty bleak for the most part.
but I've come here for a brag 😃
Played a friendly 9 hole match today. Had to give 1 shot won 3&1, Whilst shooting -4. 4 Birdies and 5 pars.
It's been at least a year I think since I've played like that.
