The movie does have a weird ending and carries a much different tone than the book, especially when placed contextually with Ellis's overarching theme of what we'd now call "NPC Culture". The biz card scene, the repeated examples of people via what they're wearing (almost always nearly identical), the slightly better haircut, and obviously, the repeated confusion of people since they're all the same. Victor Ward in Glamorama actually had the best take on this when he doesn't recognize some dude who's wife he's banging because he's 1) an idiot 2) everyone is the same to him. Tho you can watch an equally loose adaptation of that in Zoolander.

The books are vastly better since it is rather difficult to film the same level of unreliable narrator (you see what you see) and they didn't even cast a bunch of people who look nearly identical. I prefer Glamorama to AP btw. I'd encourage a read. I'd say they're more salient now since these were takedowns of a culture that is insanely ubiquotous rather than farcical to the average person.

It makes me rage that western and even to some extent Chinese society tries to shove higher education down everyone's throats as a solution to the confusion of youth. A healthier society would have gotten that guy into something like prison guard, drilling for oil, commercial fishing, agriculture, police, military, or trucking. Those jobs are important. But in a world where competition for mates is so fierce and social status often takes precedence over actual utility to society or income, I can see why "herp derp go to college" isn't necessarily that ill-informed.

I'm glad I did pursue higher education. Master's I'm iffy about; it was maybe useful for 'character building' and really pushing myself and doing something hard and learning my limits, but I'm not sure it was worth the tradeoff of time and money. However, I wasn't ready for higher education at 18, not even close. And I remember my scores were pretty poor, my attendance was spotty, and I was easily distracted by things like video games and girls. Then at 21 it was like a switch flipped and suddenly I had the capacity for delayed gratification and the patience to tolerate boredom much better than before and to think more abstractly. This is pretty consistent with pre-frontal cortex development timelines in males. There wasn't some transformative event; there was one sorta inspirational figure but she didn't have all that profound of an influence. I think it's more just that I was physiologically ready for it at around 21. But that first 2.5 years... I did not utilize this time very well nor did I make anything more than marginal real academic or intellectual progress.

MAnsion, fancy cars, lots of transactional instagram thotts, mean and domineering, has maybe done time in prison or committed incarceration worthy offenses.... these are weird ideas of “alpha males". I agree with his overall premise almost entirely (although I think the term alpha is almost unusable in a serious way these days) but yeah, deludedly believing in an all seeing, all knowing, all powerful little man in the sky doesn't seem too alpha to me. But then I live in a Godless country and while I know a few good, nice, fun religious people who believe in the good values part of religion without the oppressive parts....there is so little religion in and around my life that I'm not sure my pov is particularly balanced.

One of the fundamental tenets of the black pill I agree with is that physically attractive=alpha, but where I depart from them is in this notion that we have little to no control over our own physical attractiveness. Feelwrath, it has little to do with belief and more to do with community and a social enforcement mechanism for pro-social behaviour. Most people a bit too dumb to adopt this without the metaphorical stick and having it be proliferated by social pressure and conformity has historically been a good strategy. In a way, religion itself is an evolutionary mechanism which insures the selection for and exhibition of pro-social and cooperative behaviours. And historically, unification and cooperation via commonly shared values enforced by religious doctrine and myth were very literally mechanisms by which groups of humans conquered other groups of humans with less well develop religious orthodoxy.

I'm just throwing out completely subjective criteria and not saying I'm "right". It's more like, "what kind of life would my hypothetical son live to make me feel the most pride in him?". If I ask myself this question, promiscuity, being prone to existential anxiety, overthinking in general, and general indecisiveness are distinctly not behaviours and traits I'd want him to exhibit, despite the fact that I strongly exhibit them myself.

I guess we should wait for Guy, but if I'm understanding him correctly, I don't think he thinks you have to actually believe. It's become unusable due to it turning into a literal satirical caricature by those most vocally celebrating and self-identifying with the title. It's one of the cringiest things on the entire internet and has been for at least a decade. Redefining it in more realistic, healthy, and "happy" terms in my own ******ed subjective criteria doesn't make it any less cringe unfortunately.

Shockingly we are pretty much in agreement on what constitutes an alpha male. I got my academic knowledge in a unconventional setting solving derpy stats problems using cutting edge research and reading comically bad dissertations by PhD statisticians/comp sci boiz. (Data cleaning isn't an "optimization" folks. Its like literally one of the first things you do as a data scientist on day 1 with a new dataset.)

Also, I think most people who shit on people in flyover areas vastly overestimate the benefits they garner from being in a "culture rich" area. Basically people wanna live away from criminal areas. (If I leave a bag in my backseat, and park outside my house there isn't a decent possibility someone will smash the window. So major cities, Hawaii, etc are all out.) Also not a lot of weird black people in the US. But Native reservations are also bastions of crime, poverty, and generally all manner of fucked up stuff. The obvious wins are that your disposable income and standard of living on 250k in Arkansas is probably higher than people living in a major metro until they take home 1m+. Lets take the riveting city of Manchester where virtually everyone who is mildly wealthy lives in a small southern suburb where you can run into all the City/United players or their WAGs going shopping. Clearly 300k GBP a week doesn't stretch as far as you want if you can't even live in the city! And that even assumes you enjoy things on a regular basis that are only afforded in a major city. Ballet, fashion shows, art galleries, etc. I have not been to any of those sort of things in years. But I goto my neighborhood bar and grill multiple times a week, and walk through a UNESCO world heritage site looking at multiple buildings from the 1200s multiple times daily. Beyond this, I know several folks who got rich rich and either moved to massive houses in more rural settings. Or moved to areas where a bunch of other rich people congregate (La Zagaleta, weird spots in Dubai, etc). Some stayed in major cities. It really just depends what life you want and having the ability to create it.

After doing some quick research on mortgage rates in Little Rock and the housing market. It appears you can easily afford to live in the nicest area of Little Rock on 250-350k. And in a fairly mid-sized house (3500ish). You'd need to add a couple lawn crews or expand into sprinkler expansion to really get into the bigger job (5k+). But again. depends on what you want. I know a dude who lives in a ~7ksqft house with a double lot that is prob worth ~1m or so, but happens to be one of the top Porsche racing instructors and one of their top prototype testers. (Got a free prototype 918) It is fun to shit on these people for being little bumpkin hicks. But there is also a dude who runs a lawn service in the neighborhood. And obviously myriad tech bros and an absurd number of Indian doctors. Rich people are generally pretty successful and they run the gamut of interests and actually provide a much more diverse community when you're in a lower barrier to entry market. (Does anyone in Lux do anything other than banking/finance and their related industries?)
