Moving to Northern Nevada

Moving to Northern Nevada

Lived in Vegas for 7 years, been spending at least 2 months out here for last 20. Finally getting out to start a family, and eventually settle in the south. My wife loves Carson City and is a lobbyist so we decided to take a year lease and enjoy the small town life.

Any suggestions whether it be restaurants, poker, golf, bars, concert venues in either Carson city, Tahoe, or Reno that I need to check out while exploring the area? Thanks everyone.

Virginia City is a fun day trip too. Cheap beer, video poker, suicide table, mine tour, and taffy!

Awesome stuff greatwhite thank you

+Moved to Reno in 2017. I think Reno is great for starting a family, the weather is great, economy is growing, comparably little traffic, lots of outdoor stuff, but downside is food and nightlife compared to Vegas. (I go to Vegas once every 1-2 months for food) But its getting better

Casinos:
- I don't go downtown to the row at all for casino play
- top 3 are Peppermill (best poker), Atlantis (prob best spa), and Grand Sierra Resort (best for activities like bowling alley, driving range, escape rooms, VR rooms)

Nightlife:
non-existent for clubs if youre used to Vegas

Bars:
1) Death and Taxes (small space, dark, and can get loud, but great drinks)
2) Rum Sugar Lime (upscale tiki bar, good drinks also)
3) Fireside Lounge (located in Peppermill Casino, arguably best casino in Reno, and drinks are just ok, but its a great atmosphere and can sit around fireplace)
4) Hotel Lobby Bat at Atlantis (located in Atlantis Casino, prob a small step below Peppermill)

Restaurants:
1) Arario (korean fusion)
2) Kwoks Bistro (hong kong style Chinese restaurant, legit really good)
3) Western Village Steakhouse (best value steakhouse I've ever had. located in a dingy casino, but service and food are exceptional. I normally don't like prime rib, but their cajun prime rib is fantastic)
4) Claio (mediterranean)
5) Smiling with Hope Pizza (sicilian pizza, was in yelp top 100 years ago)
6) Kuma Sushi (AYCE sushi, there are a ton of AYCE in reno, none of them are even comparable to vegas, but this is prob the best of the bunch)
7) Anna's Taqueria (large gourmet tacos)
8) Sip of Saigon (pho and banh mi, its in Sparks, maybe a little out of the way, but the best in Reno are)

What to Do:
1) Carson Hot Springs (man made structure with water from natural hot springs)
2) lots of festivals in summer, notably Chili Festival and Rib Cook Off during Labor Day Weekend)
3) Truckee River Float (float anywhere from river, we buy tubes ourselves and go from Mayberry Park to downtown) - my favorite thing to do in Reno in summer
4) Food Truck Friday (self-explanatory, lots of food trucks in Idylwild park)
5) obviously Lake Tahoe. Sand Harbor Beach in north tahoe is prob most accessible/beautiful but gotta go early for parking. Zephyr Cove in south tahoe is good for young people/partying, bar on the beach

cant thank you enough kl, great write up. My wife and I just have such a great roster of restaurants in Vegas that we will definitely be back frequently like you.

Man, you guys have me just about ready to move to N Nevada now, lol.
