How Do People Do Main Event Travel?
I am beginning to look into traveling out to play in the Main Event but I am curious how most "casuals" book their travel.
The main event runs 07-03 through 07-17. If I did Day 1D (just to shorten the time) that would be 07-06 through 07-17. Do most people book 11-day trips and if they bust out earlier in the event just hang out in Vegas for the rest of the time? Or do people book shorter stays and look to extend the stays if they do well?
I guess, to shorten the question, what's the best way to prepare for a main event trip as a first timer?

Expect to win the damn thing and book 2 weeks! Easy answer.
I’d also spend half of the 1st place money in advance.
But seriously a poker veteran told me years ago to book X days enough so if u survive its a big enough pay jump and reschedule flight/hotel to stay longer.

I'd probably book room and flight through to when the bubble breaks. What's that, Day 4? A mincash is going to be a little over ten grand. Although, I'd try to reserve a room as far as I could. Even though you could afford any room if you made Day 5 or 6, you might have to move and I'd want to minimize any disruptions. It's much easier to unreserve a room and leave early than to reserve one at the last minute. Although July after most of the WSOP is over is hardly busy season.
Flights I'm much less familiar with because I usually drive. However it would be cool to bink and take a private charter home. Or you might just feel like buying a condo in Vegas and spending another month or two there.
I usually will book with a flight leaving late day 3. If I bust on day 1, then I will probably look to play some other smaller tournaments.
Seems a little late to be asking this for this year. Planning a year in advance? There's no right answer to this. Just depends on how long you'd want to spend in Vegas if you bust. Id it were me, I'd probably plan to leave the morning of Day 6.
troll post,
Asking several days AFTER the start of the ME and he is looking into how to travel, from an undisclosed point of origin ?
"Players might take a plane, they might take a train, but if they gotta walk, they're going just the same".
Planes, trains, and automobiles u better have my donuts!
Others have said it but book to leave on day 4. If you make it, you won't mind paying the change cost.
Having done 3 ME, I would suggest a day 5 departure. Play Day 1C, this gives you a day off before day 2, then another for day 3. You can not over estimate the importance of good rest, and how hard it is to sleep going into days 3, 4, and 5. If you arrive day 1A, this makes for 9 days, 8 nights. Another alternative is to arrive early day 1B, so 8 days. When I had my good run, I was set for a late day 4, although wife help make arrangements for sleep and flight going into day 5, still was a huge headache. Also somehow because it was a Friday night when I had to change hotel after day 4 and before day 5, got stuck in a smoking room which was awful.
