Maybe I have to give Kabuto another try. I'll let you know in early December.

Kabuto is elite... Michelin.

How hard was it to get in?

Not that hard, just have to book a month in advance.

thank you for the Kabuto updates
spouse and i went over five years ago and i've been wondering how it was holding up

Let's see how I do for first dining post, not sure if the images will show. My wife and I live in Reno, so our options for fine (and casual) dining are limited especially for Japanese. We go to Vegas a lot, and for years we did Omakase at the usual spots. At some point, we kind of got sick of just sushi and ventured over to Kaiseki meals, which are Omakase but different variety of food and started to appreciate that a lot more.

Our favorite restaurant now is Kaiseki Sanga, and they change their menu every month, use seasonal ingredients. $250pp for 8 course meal. 8-10 seats at bar and can watch the team work its magic, and they have small private dining room for 4. We have been there 4 times all at the bar, but this most recent trip was last minute and we got seated in the private dining.

They have 2 seatings, at 5:30 and 8. Same crew every time, and worth every penny.

Menu:

Course 1 (amuse): ama dai, daikon, chrysanthemum

Course 2 (appetizer): chawamushi with ikura and matsutake/hair tail, chestnut/ king salmon, satsuma imo, cream cheese/ scallop, fig, spinach

Course 3 (soup): hairy crab cake, mitsuba

Course 4 (sashimi): hirame, chutoro, kamasu (barracuda = awesome)

Course 5 (pot): matustake mushroom, ma tai, napa cabbage, ponzu

Course 6 (turf): a5 wagyu filet and truffle

Course 7 (nigiri): akami, kinmedai, sawara, wagyu, negitoro, otoro (seared with samurai sword)

Course 8 (dessert): panna cotta peach sauce, kabocha pumpkin ice cream

Looks fabulous!

That Uni looks fantastic...

Delmonico tonight free courtesy of Venetian poker room $3/hour comps. Had the gumbo and the short rib special, $16 and $46. Paid $90 for a short rib at Four Sixes the other day so $46 seems cheap. Solid 8/10 all around, 9/10 because it was free.

Great dinner at Bazaar Mar:

Shadow chaser cocktail (like an old fashioned but with Calvados) - 9.5/10
Tomato bread - 9/10
Rossenjat (I think - paella with crab, crab not shown it comes as a side sauce to mix together) - 9/10
Wagyu striploin which includes the mashed potato and salad. That salad is incredibly good, has some kind of spicy pepperoncini dressing - 9/10
Pina colada dessert thing - 8.5/10

$203 plus tip including this plus one other cocktail

that's a big meal! I'd have limped out of the restaurant. Looks awesome though. Same with that short rib at Delmonico

We're going back to Vegs in early December. Would you guys recommend Edo again or that we try Bazaar Mar, which looks pretty darn good and is near the Aria, which is a big bonus.

Basically, if you could choose one place for around $250 - $300 for two people (that's including wine), where would you go? I don't want sushi -- trying to keep my husband happy, although he likes sushi, just not as much as I do 😉

Never been to Edo but Bazaar Mar has been great all three times I went. It can get quite expensive if you’re ordering all of the small bites. The steak is a lot of food for $75, enough to split with someone really.

If you download the InKind app you can get $50 off your first visit and buy discounted food credit packages ($625 of food credit for $500, $1300 for $1000, etc). If you want a referral code use this link and you’ll get another $25 off -

https://app.inkind.com/refer/CHZPXFHS

Whoever you’re going with can download the app too and do the same thing to double the discount, just have to hit the minimum spend. You can split the checks using the app. I use it all the time at Bazaar Mar and Toca Madera which is also at Aria and it’s prob saved me a couple thousand bucks.

Thanks, wj94. I looked into inKind a year or so ago, but there are no restaurants near me that accept it. We used to go to Vegas four or five times a year, but now it's two or three, so not sure it's worth it, but I'll look again.

I have read... that when you see Maguro that is as deep red as this, that it is actually Dolphin.

Isn't akami maguro deep red? From my searches it is.

Dinner at Jean Georges. This is my fourth time at JG and every previous time I was underwhelmed by the steaks, but remembered the sea bass as the best piece of fish I’ve ever had. Well that held up because we all agreed the steaks were pretty average but the sea bass and short rib were incredible.

Ribeye and two NY strips - 6.5/10
Rib cap - 8/10 (but not worth $130)
Miso glazed sea bass 10/10 so good we ordered another one
Short rib - 10/10
Crispy sushi rice - 8/10
Bacon wrapped shrimp - 9/10
Beef carpaccio - 8/10
Tuna tartare - 7/10
Desserts - 9/10
Cocktails - 9/10
Bread - 9/10

$1100 plus tip for 5 people. It was all comped thanks to my degen friend which is nice. Overall very good but for the money there’s other places I’d rather go. Or just come back and get the sea bass/short rib instead of steak.

For our Bazaar Mar dinner (

), this is what I was thinking:

Kueh Pai Ti or Puntillitas Fritas (they both sound good)
Monkfish SAMM (I love monkfish, but last time I had it I was underwhelmed -- Sparrow + Wolf)
Rossejat

Should we skip the monkfish or Rossejat and go with the Miso Glazed Secreto Iberico or the Wagyu? Since this is a seafood place, I was thinking seafood, but we both love meat 😉

I'm open to recommendations. My husband is picky and doesn't like mustard (not a problem here) or mayonnaise (aioli, but he might have to deal with it or we can get on the side).

Dinner at Jean Georges...

is that Duck fat or just whipped butter?

No help with Bazaar Mar menu (see above)? We have reservations for Sunday, so hoping someone can agree or make a suggestion. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

the things that piqued my curiosity
only focusing on the opportunity for seafood

Puntillitas Fritas (hubby should learn to like aioli with black garlic)
Abalone and Shiitaki
Hokkaido Sea Scallops (either crudo or pan seared)
Rossejat
Cockles en Salsa Verde (i have a weak spot for clams)
Seafood Butifarra (duh...sausage and pà amb tomàquet)

I haven’t had any of those at Mar except the Rossjat which was great. I’ve seen other tables with the two apps and they looked good. The shrimp things are small.

I had the iberico secreto at Bazaar Meat and it was good but didn’t blow me away, rather have steak for the money. The Wagyu steak also comes with a full side of mashed potato and a side salad both of which are incredible so I’d vote for that.

Bazaar Mar was wonderful. We went with my first choices.

Kueh Pai Ti: My husband chose these, also, so we got them. They are small, but delicious. 8/10 -- would be 9/10 except for size.

Puntillitas Fritas: These were wonderful. My husband actually said it was some of the best calamari he's had, and he liked the aioli. Very lightly breaded with lots of flavor. 9/10

Monkfish SAMM: Meh. Nothing special. Fried fish on lettuce with an OK sauce. Server forgot to have aioli put on side. 5/10, maybe.

Rossejat: Fantastic. So good we ordered two. Crab was served in the shell, but they mixed it for us. 10/10. Loved this dish.

Except for the aioli, the server was pretty good. I waited tables for 10 years and managed a restaurant, so I'm very picky, and it's rare to see the level I expect. She couldn't answer one question, but she figured it out. She was not perfect, but her attitude made up for it and I'd be fine if she waited on us again. She's learning.

Somm was great. Loved this guy. Very young, but so well-spoken and confident. My only complaint were the wine prices. We ordered a $90 bottle of white (actually got two) that we could get for <$30 retail. I know wine is always way more expensive in a restaurant, and if we had paid $60 to $75, I would have understood, but 3x retail is pushing it. They have a $50 corkage fee, so if we go back I'll do that.

Overall very enjoyable. We went early so very few other guests -- that might have helped with the service, etc., but they did a great job.

thanks for the follow up javanewt! already added to my list for our next visit

Dinner at Cut, first time I’ve been there. Courtesy of Venetian poker room comps, $3/hour solid promo.

Bread board - pretzel bread 16/10, pumpernickel 2/10, others 7/10. You can sub out the types of bread, I’d recommend getting 8 pretzel breads.
Wagyu beef skewers - 10/10 incredible
Crab and shrimp louie cocktail - 7.5/10
Onion rings - 11/10
Mac and cheese - 8/10
Eye of ribeye Australian wagyu - 9/10
Banana cream pie/chocolate bomb type dessert - 9/10
Free hazelnut truffles - 11/10 these were stupid good and should be on the menu

Somehow they had no regular cuts of NY strip, only the $400 40oz ones so that was disappointing because I was looking forward to the strip steaks. For the money I’d for sure take 4 orders of the beef skewers over the 9oz steak.

Overall 9/10 and atmosphere/ambiance is a 10/10, super nice restaurant and great service.

Total was $320 plus tip including one $25 glass of wine, just had to pay tip because of the comps.

The food all looks incredible.

Thats a huge meal with all the sides. Surely not all you?
