Rice can convince himself of anything. According to him the difference in gas would be more than $2500. Not only is that an absurd exaggeration but he's also conveniently forgetting that a lot of the trips he does are specifically to avoid higher room rates. If he had a van to live in then he would probably have to do less than half the amount of driving each year as he would be able to stay in Vegas a higher % of the time.

I love how he said he would prefer to just sleep in a car on expensive w

My estimation of Rice's intelligence & reasoning skills just went down quite a bit after watching his "van life" video.

If he wishes to be frugal and has a VERY LIMITED bankroll & budget, he can easily get a Ford or Dodge RAM work mini-van for WELL under $10K. I'm also not talking about something on it's last legs with 250K miles. With 1 minute of searching, I saw several SCREENS of these work vans in the Detroit area with about 100K miles for WELL under $10K. As sharp & frugal as he is, could he get one for $6K? Maybe? Spend $2k on new tires, new brakes, other repairs & improvements, and the thing would probably be in pretty good mechanical shape & good for another 100K miles.

Rice would then spend another couple few grand outfitting it to allow him to live out of it reasonably comfortably for a few nights at a time. How? The thing is probably stripped out. Put in some plush carpeting & noise deadening, black out the window. Put in a comfortable futon. Upgrade the electrical system & put in a battery. This would allow him to run a SMALL refrigerator, recharge his computer/phone and put in a TV to watch re-runs of his cherished TV shows.

Put in some shelving to store stuff.

Put in a hot plate to cook rice & sausage.

Put in a fan to keep the thing somewhat cool when it gets hot. Have another fan for when he sleeps.

REMEMBER, this is not something to be lived out of for weeks at a time. It is for expensive weekends, traveling, and as a backup.

As for gas mileage, YES, Rice is correct that vans generally don't get as good mileage as cars do. HOWEVER, a small work van can easily get 18 in the city and 28 on the freeway. How much worse than his car is this? A few MPG? So maybe a 10% to 15% hit on the MPG?

As for room rates, RICE can get off strip rooms on expensive weekends for $50/night? Whut whut? Where is he staying? A hostel? I call nonsense on this.

RICE also needs to consider what his time is worth. With a van, he only has to walk out of the casino and into the parking lot. He also saves gas & time by not having to drive anywhere.

Of course, RICE's time might only be $3/hour? We don't know as he won't disclose his results for the past year.

I can't tell you that with a clear conscience...

I know Carlos Welch (and he is diesel cheap) lived in his van on weekends and when he wasnt getting comped at the Rio or Laughlin (obviously he can't now cause he is in a relationship) but did he ever document what it entailed ?
pretty sure he had a thread but can't remember if I imagined that (will search now)

A 2000's era Toyata Sienna is the way to go, the work vans have the fuel pump which requires dropping the gas tank and the Sienna has the fuel pump accessible through a latch inside. The starter can be changed by removing the battery and air intake, the alternator is easy too.

I could see the argument for him to buy a van or suv where he could be more comfortable during his 48 hour no room spurts but living in a van full time would be awful.

I would take Diesel's life of jumping from hotel room to air bnb's over living in a van anyday.

People advocating for living in a Van, have never lived in a Van.

by parisron k

You get a drink cup to put coffee, etc. in to go with your buffet box, only an idiot would put a drink in the cup, like Diesel says, so he fills it with cheese.

by Lionelhuttz k

remember he has all that pocket butter he swiped from the mgm buffet to hold him over. pocket food. One day I hope to be less miserable and own that much butter at one time.

Diesel raped that buffet.
It only took Diesel a few years to learn not to put starches in your to go buffet container.
Now that Diesel is raping the Mgm Buffet, his food budget this year is gonna be at an all time low.

Filling his shorts pockets with butter and filling his coffee cup with gouda cheese and shrimp is a game changer for Rice. Next time he needs to wear a jacket so he can put some bread rolls and dips in the extra pockets. We know how much he loves his pocket bread.

Rice's obsession with sausage is next level. Anyone would think with the amount of sausage meat he eats on the daily that he would use the buffet as an opportunity to expand his horizons a little and try some other types of meats out there, but apparently not.

Crab legs are a spoon food!

I bet when he whipped out his kitchen shears everyone was real impressed!

I just found a fantastic seafood buffet vest

holes for holding your meat shears, various utensils, or more improtantly your seafood pick
flap pockets for all of your sauce needs
zip pockets for small shellfish
larger zip pockets for flounder and salmon
large bread and meat pockets - but can be used for shrimp in a pinch
large hidden pockets specifically designed to hold crab legs

breathable, functonal, and stylish

A must have

Rice's rationales for not having a Van/RV/Camper gives insight to "on the spectrum" problem solving very similar to the logic used by TBC when faced with a dilemma.

The increased use of gas. The additional cost of a vehicle getting 20mpg versus 30mpg on a 1000 mile journey with gas at $3.50 is about $59. To save this $59, on the spectrum thinkers will sleep in a car on the way and pay hundreds for hotels at the destination.

Then, on the spectrum thinkers will always set up artificial constraints

His kitchen is the bathroom, and few vans have an actual bathroom.

He probably used slip-joint pliers to crack the shell.

Isn't the Wynn buffet over 50 freakin' bucks? He must have played there all week to get enough comp dollars.

I think I saw recently that various higher cards from other casinos will get you upgraded at Wynn, maybe he did that with his Diamond card from Caesars, and maybe you get some kind of discount or free meal or something.

Yeah either that or he somehow bamboozled some poor soul into paying for him. I recall he recently did the tier match at Resorts World and got the $100 welcome dinner there too.

Holy cow! El D is branching out.

I'd bet my life El D didn't pay for that buffet.
I'd also bet my life El D left that Buffet with some food squirreled away inside one of his pockets.
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say El D was the worst dressed guy in the joint.

He wore his dress baggy shorts!

His dress cargo short pockets were an appetizing mixture of butter packets, crab legs, sausages and assorted cheeses. His walk from the Wynn to the Horseshoe helped the food in his pants marinate.

Just get a 1/2 bucket of ice at the hotel and place the shorts in and cover with lid. Presto! Tomorrow offers a feast for a king.

Maybe he got the status match AND it was his birthday. They get some kind of free food on their birthday.

I looked on their website for a free parking benefit but I didn't see it on any card level. Anyone have the inside poop on that?

"Complimentary self-parking is extended to Wynn Poker Room guests (visit the Poker Room for details), Private Access members and Wynn Rewards members in the Chairman, Black and Platinum Tiers."

You need that free upgrade from Diamond. You get 3 hours free without it though.

years ago, i had the choice of residing anywhere i wanted. i narrowed it down to ac and vegas but ultimately chose ac bcz like rice, i have family in the northeast so i wanted to be in close proximity. i also didn't want to deal with 100+ degrees 5 months/year and i can get to vegas whenever i want for <$300 round trip out of ac int'l. if he needed to go to council bluffs, spirit doesn't fly to iowa so prob gotta go to kc and rent/drive but the dude's driving across country anyway so that should

Good post. Sounds like you developed the wisdom that led to the office job when you were in your early to mid thirties. So perhaps there’s hope for Nomad yet. I hope BigPoppa reads your post and thinks about it rather than reflexively dismissing it.

Got round to watching this video today and that 'meal' was every bit as vulgar as it looked. Rice was also speaking as if he was preparing some high class food as he was going through the process. Just absolutely unreal on so many levels
