MGM Vegas Properties raising parking and resort fees tomorrow [12/4]

MGM Vegas Properties raising parking and resort fees tomorrow [12/4]

From Review Journal:

https://www.reviewjournal.com/business/c...

RESORT FEES

Resort fees at Bellagio, Aria, Vdara and The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas will increase $5 to $55 per day. The daily resort fee at MGM Grand, Mandalay Bay, Delano, Park MGM, Nomad and The Signature will go up to $50, an increase of $5 for the first three and $8 for the latter trio. New York-New York, Luxor and Excalibur will charge a resort fee of $45, which represents a $3 increase for New York-New York and an $8 jump for the other two.

PARKING

Self-park visitors will pay $20 Monday through Thursday (currently $18) and $25 on the weekends (Friday through Sunday; currently $23). Self-park hotel guests will be charged $20 on all days, up $2 from the current pricing.

Valet parking for hotel guests and visitors will be $40 at all properties. Presently, valet parking charges range from $25 to $40, depending on the property and day of the week.

MGM Rewards members with pearl tier status or higher can self-park for free, and free valet parking is earned at the gold tier status or above.

Parking remains free for all active United States military, veterans and spouses through MGM Rewards Military & Veterans Program (MVP).

Locals with a valid Nevada identification card can continue parking for free for up to three hours at all MGM Resorts properties.

My comment: Assume others will promptly follow.

MGM Gold waives RF.

RF ... the greatest rip-off in the history of Vegas (and that's saying something) :-))

what started with like 15 i guess, now at 55$, for wifi, gym and pool that's gonna be there anyways (if you claim to be a 4+ star hotel)

gotta give it to them though: no shame or fear, they just keep on raising it.

it's like paying 80K for a BMW, but then the dealer says:

"Oh, you wanted the car with tires Sir? That's another 30 K pls"
We call it usage fee.

You can also get half resort fee at some of the properties without being Gold if you gamble a bit. I am currently Pearl, and have half resort fee at MGM Grand, Park MGM, NYNY, Mandalay Bay, Delano (soon to be The W), and I believe something like 75% off at Excalibur and Luxor.

It certainly helps a lot to drive the prices down, even though it's annoying that they just keep raising the resort fees every year.

would have to be a lot of bit.

I had a car dealer try and add a bunch of scam fees once including some advertising fee. I told him sure but I'm gonna charge you for all the food I've ever eaten otherwise I'd be dead and couldn't buy this car. He smirked and then said "yea man these fees are all bullshit but I have to try."

good for you putting the car dealer in his place.
unfortunately the option doesn't exist with MGM, the hotels don't "try", they just do ;-)

i mean, in all seriousness:
i understand all this from a marketing perspective, ok, but in the end you don't have a choice, so it belongs to the price for the room and shouldn't be separated.

pretty sure in Europe there is some consumer protection agency with a law against that, that's why we don't have that here.

At least you get something for it. Used to have to pay for internet. Parking fees are a bigger rip-off. All you get is a light bulb telling you a parking space is empty. You would've known that in ten seconds anyway.

disagree with this.
you get something for it that you are supposed to get anyways, otherwise you shouldn't call yourself a 4 or 5 star resort

but the main issue is another:
it's not optional.
if you could choose, say, i don't need wifi (my mobile plan is enough), i don't use the pool, etc., so i don't then pay it ... ok, that would be fine. but that's not possible.

everyone has internet on their phones and most of the time the internet using the phone as a hotspot is faster than their shitty wifi. 55 a day for internet is a joke.

But at least it has free local calls!

As much as I don't like parking fees I'd argue the opposite. At least you're paying for something you're using. I rarely drive in vegas so i wouldn't have to pay for parking (even though my status would get it free in most places)

I'd actually respect it more if it was listed as a "scam tax".
If you don't use any of the stuff from the resort fee you're still stuck paying for it.

I've been a "loyal" MGM patron for most of my last 10+ Vegas trips but my next one in Jan will probably be last staying with them.

Stations or South Point can give me a better room with more affordable dining and the money saved on RF can go to a rental car to get around where and when I need to

understandable and smart.
if i didn't have gold status i would never stay there too

they just pushed it to the point ( and will push further no doubt) where it's really not fun anymore

Free parking if you get the free MGM credit card. Just use it at least once a year.

I much prefer Station casinos and SP to the strip.

all good and true, but think about the bigger picture:

you go to a place where you are at a mathematical disadvantage and supposed to lose your money, but to get in (and park your car), you have to pay???

There is a large % of people who park in casino parking garage’s to attend sporting events, concerts, comedy shows, (essentially anyone not staying in the casino or even planning to gamble). I personally think most are charging for parking due to greed, but also to make SURE they aren’t the “free garage” that non-gambling traffic will hoard during large event days.

Resort fees are just gonna resort fee…

You have a choice. Stay at properties that don't rip you off.

Some manufacturers are already doing something like this. You buy the vehicle and have to pay a monthly fee to use all the features. And not just OnStar and/or satellite radio. Stuff like remote start, heated seats/steering and enhanced cruise control. Coming soon to a dealer near you.

I knew there was a reason I haven't gone to Vegas in almost ten years. I don't mind splurging once in a while, but I despise being nickel and dimed. Screw Vegas.

You have a choice. Stay at properties that don't rip you off.

Resort fees are about ripping off the government not just you. There is a tax on room fees that does not apply to resort fees; at least in two states where I know the law, so the hotel gets to keep all the increase to customer of one but either raises the other by the raise plus tax on the raise or net gets less money.

In addition to increasing resort fees, they have also slashed my previously decent offers in regards to reduced resort fees. Two months ago I had half resort fee at Park MGM, NYNY, Mandalay Bay, MGM Grand etc., and sometimes even only 25% resort fee at Luxor at Excalibur.

Now they are forcing me to pay full resort fee at all properties, with no exception. Sad development, and if I don't see any reduction in these after my next trip, I might have to start considering putting my money into other properties and rewards programs.

Not sure about other states but you pay the same tax on resort fees as you do on the hotel room price in Nevada.
