Day 5 - Thursday June 12th
I was tired after the late finish last night and slept in this morning so no pool time.
Lunch at Mon Ami Gabi before the 1pm restart.
Playing in the Horseshoe events center today.
The draw for the game results in us starting on O8
We play the first 2 hands and end up getting three quarters of both.
Onto Razz and we win one with a 7 against an 8. Good start. Up to about 220k
Then we lose a big one on the last hand of razz. We have an 8 made on 6th but villian makes a 6 on 7th street.
No hands in the Stud round. Onto Stud 8 and lose a big one bricking 2345. The limits had just gone up to 8k-16k so that one hurt.
Now we only have 100k on the bubble and the average is nearer 200k
Floor tells the dealers to hold up. They verify and it seems 2 people bust so there won’t be any bubble play. We’re all in the money.
In Hold’em I open Q9s from the cut-off and the big bling defends.
Flop: J-T-4
He checks, I bet, he calls.
Turn: 7
He checks, I bet, he calls.
River: A
Check, check.
He shows down A-5
Hard to get people to fold Ace high in limit hold’em.
Now in Razz we somehow manage to lose starting A-2-3 vs 6-7-8
Starting to get the feeling it’s not going to be our day. Down to 75k on the first break going back to 10k - 20k limits.
Ante’d away a bit after the break but found a double in stud 8 all-in for 53k with 333 v QQ. Up to 120k
Maybe we’re not done just yet? 107 left. Avg. is 200k

Put my last 40k in with A-4-5-8 in O8 against the SB

It was only around 5pm when we busted, and still feeling good went off in search of a cash game.
They were just starting a 2nd $50-$100 O.E. must move table and we managed to get a seat.
In for $3,000.
We proceeded to lose just about every hand we played for the first hour and were soon down to $1,000 at which point we got moved to the main game.
We grinded and grinded and things began to turn.
Out for $3,600 for a nice comeback. +$600 after 7 hours.

Just watching yesterday's Dnegs vlog and see Huck Seed rocking a Medellin shirt?
Speaking of Medellin I might actually have a tough decision to make. Having played **** all year and only just scraped into the playoffs they have somehow found form and are now a big favorite to make the final. A win on Sunday against Tolima would lock up their spot at which point I'd have to make a choice; miss the final or make a flying visit back home?

Day 6 - Friday June 13th
Woke up in time for my morning swim today. Not too many people there at 9am so was able to get a good workout.
(Actually took this picture at 11am. There were less people there earlier)
I also think things over when I’m swimming and came up with the plan to fire a bullet in the $1k PLO before the Razz starts. If it works out well go with that. If not then we play Razz. So that’s what we did.
Chipped up nicely from the 20k starting stack to be on 50k at the first break.
Had dropped back down to around 30k when the following hand occurred:
I limp UTG with AQT9ds.
UTG+1 raises to 3k which the BB cold calls.
I now pot it to 12k and they both call!
Flop: Q-4-5r
BB checks and I go all in for about 20k
They also both go all-in!
I’m behind but have outs.
Turn: Q
Now I’m ahead, can we hold for a 100k pot?

Okay, looks like we’ll play Razz after all.
Tough table draw with Nam Le, Ali Eslami and Hal Rotholz.
It’s tough sledding but we make the end of late reg on 37k.
We’re running bad at getting max late reg crushers joining our table. Today it’s Benny Glaser!
He doesn’t last long and we don’t really tangle. Only one hand where I folded on 4th to him.
We have 52k on the last break of the night and then pretty much get ante’d and blinded away over the next hour.
We make a stand with our last 20k starting 245 and end up with 24567 which loses to 23467. GG
We miss out on playing the Big O landmark satellite as late reg had closed by the time we got knocked out of the Razz.

Day 7 - Saturday June 14th
We’ve played a lot of poker over the past six days so decided to take a day off today, choosing not the play the $600 O.E. at MGM that I had on my schedule.
We also had to change hotels again, going back to MGM, this time for 7 nights.
Harrah’s was fine but MGM is much nicer. I would take Harrah’s over the Excalibur though, mainly because I can relax at the pool better.
Took about 30 minutes in line but the $20 trick worked and we got an early check-in to a newly refurbished room again.
Same as the first one we had, but this is 1 king instead of 2 queens.
View from the room. A good feature of these rooms is the mini-bar has an extra little fridge where you can put your own stuff.
For lunch we opted to try the fish and chips at Nine Fine Irishmen across the street in NYNY as somebody had told me it was good.
Well it was certainly a good sized portion! Two huge pieces of haddock for $30. Taste wise it was solid, but nothing special. 7/10
Feeling stuffed I crawled back to MGM and slept off the food coma by the pool. Being a Saturday all the pools were pretty packed so no chance to swim and they’d turned up the volume and put that awful club music on unfortunately.
Stayed at the pool until it closed at 7pm then showered and changed and went to see the show at Brad Garrett’s Comedy Club. Only $36 for the cheap seats which I thought was pretty good.
Looked like it was sold out as all the seats were full. The comics tonight were Luca Ferro (host), Kathleen Dunbar (warm-up) and Vince Carone (headliner). I enjoyed it and found all 3 of them funny.

side note: a few years ago I was in Vegas playing some tournaments and I put in a text in our family chat saying one was about to start. My older son (around 18 at the time) wrote: "glgl".
Later that day I was talking to my wife on the phone and she said "What does gul gul mean?" So now we just write "gul gul" in our chats...

Day 8 - Sunday June 15th
Another day in the freezer that is the Yellow section in the Paris ballroom. Easily the coldest section in the room. It would be warmer if I took an ice bath.
It was a really rough day and I wont bore you too much with the details but pretty much every time I played a hand someone made a straight or flush against me.
Fired two bullets and was never above starting stack on either of them.
This first bullet I battled 9 levels and finally succumbed when villain made a wheel in Stud 8 on me.
The 2nd bullet I only VPIP’d on two hands and was done.
The first one In Omaha 8 I defend QQJ9 on the BB in a 3-bet multi-way pot. The Aces are obviously all accounted for so maybe I can get a flop to scoop a nice pot.
The flop is perfect: Q-T-4 rainbow.
I lead out and get one caller. Obviously AA with low draw.
Turn: 2 (now two club on board)
Might not be a bad card as it could counterfeit his low.
I bet, he calls.
River: 6 (another club)
I check, he bets, I call
He shows down AA5x with clubs to scoop me.
And then the 2nd hand was in Stud 8.
It was actually a 3-way pot and I was all-in with KKK on 5th against two low draws. Not one of them, but both of them ended up making flushes and obviously I didn’t fill up. GG.

Day 9 - Monday June 16th
I go down to the pool at 9am as usual, only to see a sign that it actually opens at 8am. I’ve been wasting an hour of pool time each morning!
The plan today was to play the $50-$100 O.E. Cash game at Paris which normally starts up around 2pm which allowed plenty of time for a nice lunch first.
Chicken parm at Lago in Bellagio.
It was okay, but not as good as Allegro.
Got to Paris around 1:30pm. The O.E. Game wasn’t running yet but they were just starting a $5-$5-$10 Big O table so sat down in that.
Turned out to be a really good game so I just stayed here, even after the O.E. Started. There was at least one person all-in every hand for the first hour. I was all-in myself on one of those occasions with a pretty same hand as the villain. I was slightly better but he hit his gin card to 3/4 me.
That was the only time I was all-in as I picked up smaller pots here and there. Didn’t get involved in any train wreck pots.
In for $2,000, out for $3,200 after 6 hours for +$1,200 profit.
When I left the game was no longer good. Freddy Deeb had sat down and proceeded to run like god and ironed out all the easy spots. He turned $2k into $10k in about 2 hours.
After booking the win I took a stroll to the Wynn to meet a buddy. We had a few drinks and degen’d a little.
This is why I don’t degen. I run bad at blackjack. 3 split aces and not a ten to be seen.
The dealer turned over a 5 to go with her 5 up-card. Oh ****!
She pulls a 4 for 14. Come on!
And another 5 for 19. NH. GG. [emoji22]
Was up $700 at one point but called it a night down -$400.
Walked back to the MGM and stopped for supper on the way.
Back in the room I watch a bit of the poker go live stream of the $250k super high roller.
Happy to see Dnegs in the money as I have a very small piece of his package:
The $250k was make or break for the package. If he’d fired two bullets here and not cashed, the chances of turning a profit would be pretty slim.
As it is, he only fired one, and even though he only min-cashed he should be favorite to be in profit for the series now and give me a positive return on the investment.
