Best area around Vegas to raise a family
Hello, thank you for all of the help in advance.
Next summer my family and I will be relocating to the Vegas area for a job opportunity as well as the poker aspect of things. I will be working around the Summerlin area and it seems good from what I've read for familes. Is that a good read or what would the locals reccomend? My main concerns are the schools in the area, activities for kids (sports leagues, parks, normal stuff) and crime. I don't really care about the distance to the strip as I'd be going maybe once a week or a few times a month as I mainly play online. As far as a commute for work, anything within 30-45 minutes is fine.
Look forward to hearing what you guys think, thank you so much

Yes Summerlin is one of the nicer areas of the Las Vegas Valley.
I don't have kids so I can't comment about schools. There definitely are youth soccer and baseball leagues in the Summerlin area and an abundance of parks.
Henderson?
St George, UT... Schools in Clark County are notoriously pretty bad..
But, seriously Summerlin is probably your best option..
We raise our kid near the Lakes and we have him in a secured, private school. It’s a pretty middle/upper middle class neighborhood with a strong Jewish community

My first reaction is "nowhere." Especially if you have daughters. I will be leaving pretty soon after 15 years, and know at least 2 others with similar plans.
However, the wealthier suburbs are nice places and, while the schools are terrible overall, I've heard that even the public schools are OK if the area is nice enough. If you can afford to buy a home in those areas, it should be OK. I think the farthest out parts of Henderson are probably a bit more affordable and still pretty clean and safe.
If you aren't making excellent $ and just kind of think it would be fun to live here (you mentioned poker being a factor), most of the city is no place for kids.
Why do you say that about daughters? The schools being bad definitely seems to be a trend I've seen talking to people off of here as well and reading online. It seems there is some decent private options, though. Not really too concerned about costs, I have a very good job and a pretty profitable "hobby" in poker. (it's not really a hobby I'd be considered a professional if I didn't also work)
Appreciate the responses so far
I'd be worried about a daughter becoming a stripper, or something in that range. Not only can you make good money starting at 18, it is very socially accepted here.
I don't have kids or go to strip clubs, but I have heard people say things like "all my daughter's friends want to be strippers."
High rates of divorce, kids outside of marriage, etc. Squid has a good post about it somewhere. There is just a general sleeziness.
However, I have a well off friend who raised a family in a lovely gated community in Summerlin. Seems like it went well. In your case, it sounds like you could pull off something similar. There is a nice UMC+ lifestyle here.
There just isn't really much in the way of a stable LMC or WC lifestyle, particularly for families.
Yeah, if you have a hot stripper daughter, she might well buy her own house in your neighborhood.
