Constructing Ranges for Toy Game

Constructing Ranges for Toy Game

Game is nlhe 5max - average table is 3 or 4 handed - ratholing is allowed, you can just leave the table (or switch tables) and come back with 10-50bb at any time

min stack is 10bb, max is 50bb, median stack is 10bb as most buyin for the minimum

rake is high, 10% uncapped

Typical preflop action is limping in, regardless of cards, imagine the old Pokerstars Hubble tournies where nobody cared whatsoever but then remove the fact that some people there actually knew how to play - those people mostly don't exist here - everyone is a fun player

so whether they have 27o or AA they are usually limping in preflop and only about 10% of the pots are raised preflop

People do not fold, we're talking vpips of like 80%

if you raise preflop, even shove, about 60% of the time people will call, doesn't matter if they have J2o and are the 4th person in the pot - they just want action

likewise this is also true postflop, if you shove on a AQ9 monotone board, you're about 50/50 to get called by K2o without any suit matching the board

I'm guessing the optimal strategy here is short stacking 10bb to reduce variance and as such that means take a shove or fold approach preflop

and since we're called with atc, usually if we have an ace or broadway or pocket pair we're ahead and fold everything else and checking the blinds to see to catch a good flop in which i'll shove then

but would i be better suited to instead of engaging in a general range advantage preflop, instead to join into the limping madness and then bet big when i hit top pair or better?

basically, should i be seeing flops and be very aggro there post flop with value or continue the fold/shove strategy pre - my inclination is that since biggest stacks are 50bb and usually most people only have 10bb then the shove pre strategy is ideal

Use an equity calculator to exact numbers, but I'd just shove med size pocket pairs, Ax above 9 and some top Kx hands as a rough estimate. Ignore suits.

yeah that's the general gist of where i'm leaning

also thinking that it's best to do a fold/shove approach given stack sizes

real question is do we limit variance with 10bb stacks ourselves (there are occasional 50bb stacks) or do we ourselves buyin for 50bb?
