How to Adjust to a LAG? Line Check with AQo in the SB and A5dd on the BTN
1/2
V (covers), around 24, has played 1.5 orbits and open-raised five times. In one of these hands, he had 4To. What first looked like clear snot dripping was in fact V’s dirty nose ring.
Hero (325) is TAG.
Hand1
One limp. V on the BTN raises to 12. Hero in the SB with wtf AQo? Hero raises to 35. Folds to V who calls.
Flop (65 after rake): AT8r
Hero bets 30. V folds.
Hand 2
One limp. V in the CO raises to 12. Hero with Ad5d on the BTN ? Hero calls. BB calls. Limper calls. 4-way.
Flop (44 after rake): 8sJs4c
Checks to V who bets 12. Hero folds. Everyone folds.

raise pf bigger in hand 1 and 3 bet preflop in hand 2. id rather fold than cold call A5s in this spot. you are inviting the blinds and limper in cheap with a hand that is going to whiff almost always. much better to 3b and have initiative rather than play scared fit or fold like all the fish do.
edit: hand 1 flop bet size is weird and in no-mans land. what does a 45% bet accomplish that a 1/4-1/3 size pot bet doesnt, or a 3/4 size pot bet doesnt? if you want to target weaker Ax bet bigger. if you want to vb vs. a wide range then range bet 1/4-1/3.
given that both villains and your ranges should be wide in this spot it makes more sense to range bet 1/4-1/3 imo for balance and to vb vs his wide range of weak holdings such as Tx and gutshots.
I dunno if I can mark someone as a TAG in 1.5 orbits. Either way, if you're looking for a call in hand 1, why not a 1/3 bet? In hand 2, why didn't you 3! with position? If he is loose, and you are TAG, take that opportunity to squeeze with your hand.
H1 - fine. I'd make it 40 pre. I could see x/raising flop as well for value.
H2 - raise pre for value. Calling IP is fine too. Fine AP.
Hand 1 I would go at least 4x OOP pre when 3betting. Flop bet is fine. We could go smaller on flop or even exploitatively check vs a very aggressive player. But planning to bet flop and check turn to give him rope to hang himself is arguably the best play.
Hand 2 3bet pre all day. The guy is opening T4o. Either v will fold or he will call you with a garbage range you are ahead of with A5s.
Agree w/ bigger on H1, but nice hand, and 3bet pre H2.
Yea 3bet H2, I feel like you can feel good about his folds/calls/raises because raises are just folds for you and calls are probably hands you're ahead of.
What everyone said - raise bigger pre in H1. 3B pre in H2.
For other hands against this V - he may be playing a raise-or-fold strat pre-flop, but apparently with much wider than optimal ranges. I'd think you could print off this guy by 3B'ing him with a polarized range of hands that are strong enough to jam and hands that are easy 3B-folds.
