Posting Blinds in a Straddled Game

Posting Blinds in a Straddled Game

In a game where everyone agrees to straddle, if you miss the blinds should you just post the blinds or post the straddle as well?

Eg. 5/10/20, do you owe live 20 dead 15, or do you just owe live 10 dead 5?

If you come in after the button, at the very least you miss four hands - STR, BB, SB, BTN. In an 8 handed game that's half the orbit.

In my local games nobody seems to care, but in Vegas some people seem to. I think it's dumb to make players choose between paying 2.5bb to play less than half an orbit, or wait for the straddle to come back around. Having 3 blinds makes it super annoying for people to leave the table for a few minutes for a bathroom break, chat with friends, or anything else.

If it's "everyone agrees to straddle", your obligation is still just live 10 dead 5. Assuming it's not a stated 3-blind game on the plaque or the board. In a stated 3-blind game, it'd be different of course, and live 20 dead 15 sounds right in terms of posting what you missed. This will likely vary a lot by room rules, and some rooms/games you may be able to straddle to 40 to come back in, which I would certainly do rather than post 20 live 15 dead.

As with any player-agreed-upon rule, there is no right answer, YMMV, etc. You can always ask the table and read vibes from there.

5/10/20 is when it starts not being worth it to get a reputation of being a nit or having recs think you’re bad for the game, so whatever you do I wouldn’t let on that you’re sweating $35.
