1/3 weird spot

1/3 weird spot

1/3 effective stack is 280

V: pretty crazy. Plays a lot of bad hands but plays them aggressively. Wanted to move to my left before I even sat down.

H: tight image only been here an hour

OTTH one limp I raise cutoff with KsQs to 15 V calls SB limper calls

(45) Flop QcJd7s

Checks to me I bet 15 he raises to 40 limper folds I call

(125) turn 6d he bets 70 I call

Seems standard

(265) river 9s he bets 120

Not many hands I think he can really have except maybe QJ or K10dd

villain plays lots of hands and is aggressive so T9 & 98 also in range and if you want to narrow it more only add the dd holdings - I'll explore this a bit more below.

I dont think rangebetting for 1/3rd pot is good strat at low level cash games. It's entire purpose is to apply pressure against the range of hands V holds that DIDNT 3bet pre, whereas most opponents at this limit, especially live, are NOT 3betting enough which means their range OTF when they dont 3bet is not as susceptible to what that strat wants to achieve.

& I dont see much alternative to folding on river. the runout isnt wonderful and an opponent like this will make it much easier for you in future hands to stack them.

All that said, there's something interesting about the flop here I want to focus on that seemed to get glossed over, especially if we pursue an analysis from an angle built solely around exploitative play where I effectively want to advocate for repopping the flop given villain description/tendencies and likely range held when they c/r (which is different from the range we perceive them to hold PRIOR to the check/raise)

Basically we have about 40% equity against a rather conservative c/r range from villain but if we start adding in combos that would fulfill the necessary qualifications to satisfy the "plays lots of bands aggressively" description I think the math would swiftly fall in our favor to repop the c/r.

Yes stack sizes are awkward at this point given 285 effective but with our down bet and their undersized c/r the profitability of repopping here should be realized much easier. I'll draft that up and post later if i get the time showing the math to support this.

The thread appears to be 3 years old, FWIW.

Though I did appreciate your point about the purpose of small (<1/2 pot) c-betting, the targeted ranges, and that it may not work given LL Vs's tendencies to not raise hands they "should" pf.

Something I'll be thinking about, given its prevalence lately.

whoah that is so weird and i dont know why this hand showed up on my front page of threads i must have inadvertantly clicked something. sorry to ressurect the dead! lol

its my first time back on the internet after being asleep for 5 and half years forgive the faux pas
