5/5 AQ vs 5 ppl on Ah board

5/5 AQ vs 5 ppl on Ah board

5/5

~$500 effective

The opponents are a group of loose, weak players + OMC

Hero A Q raises to $20, MP calls, HJ calls, BU calls, SB calls, BB calls

Flop($120) A 9 4

Hero - ?

Usually, I just check and give up in these spots, treating them like bomb pots. However, can we make a stab here to potentially get value from worse hands and force people to fold hands that have some equity against us?

If we bet, it should be pretty small, like just $20.

Agree on c-betting small, ~20-30

Can’t really go wrong with checking and waiting to put money in when ranges and equities firm up a bit.

There is actually some merit to betting 1/5p on monotone boards heads up, but 1) less so on an A-high board, 2) not sure about mega-multiway, and 3) this hand in particular isn’t one that greatly benefits from the strategy.

This hand feels good when it gets 1 big bet of value, and I tend to think we’re better off waiting for a chance to make a big bet and get max value/protection in one go when the actions and cards have gone in our favor, rather than betting small, inevitably getting a bunch of calls and having to fade a million checks and cards anyway. If we can bet small on multiple streets without getting played back at when you play your hand so face up, that can work but probably not a good habit to form.

Obviously 7x2d has 9 outs on us, so we’re getting SOME protection even when we bet tiny, but against this many opponents it’s not gonna do enough to be worth limiting your options on later streets.
