Strategies for Dealing With People Who Berate Bad Players?

Berating bad players has become ridiculously common at one casino I play at. Three trips in a row, dead money literally got up and walked out because they were being berated for bad play.

Today, a guy was playing poker for literally the first time ever. He was spewing money and burning through hundreds. A new guy sits at the table and watches him make a bad, but not terrible, play. He then spends the next 5 minutes calling the guy "easy money" and repeatedly asking why he made the play. The guy didn't play a hand for the next hour and didn't rebuy again.

Later, A DEALER sees a guy walk in the poker room and starts shouting "Here, fishy fishy! Come over here, fish!". He then tells stories about what a fish the guy is. Then, the two fish at the table get self-conscious, rack up, and break the table.

Then, a guy gets pissed that aces got cracked by a guy who called $15 pre-flop with 94o. He pissed and moaned until the guy went and played blackjack.

wtf.

Usually, I try to befriend the guy who is getting attacked or try to felt the guy who's being a jerk. It's getting so common though, I can't keep up.

What do you do? I really wanted to report the dealer. It's already a dealer I don't tip.

Really good poker players contribute by making the game more fun.

This. Fish don’t play the game to win. They have fun playing and losing. More so when they are playing with other players who get this.

I would be saying something not only to that idiot dealer (unless he knew the guy and was jk).

I wonder if OP is misreading the dealer. There are several dealers I have that sort of relationship with where I tell them they are the worst dealers ever and they call me fish, clueless, and other assorted jabs.

Those dealers know I tip well and I genuinely enjoy their banter. After a few minutes of mutual harassment, the convo will move on to their wife and kids or whatever. Asking a proud parent about how their kid is doing in school or on their sports team always makes them happy.

One dealer's mother lost her home in a tornado a couple of years ago and when I tip him more than $1, I tell him it's 1 for him and the rest is for his mom. Some players assume I'm insulting him but based on our many convos away from the table, I know he appreciates the kindness.

Youre better at poker than us, and we are better at ****ing your wife than you.”

Perfect!

"DUDE! That's not right. All his wife has ever given me is a BJ."

Good poker players, especially pros are just parasites. They (we) receive money while contributing less than nothing to society (the only thing we contribute is making the game less fun by causing others to win less often)

I disagree. People play poker for entertainment. If you're more socialable and entertaining than the average player, you are providing value. I'm much cheaper than therapist and sometimes provide better service 😉 A lot of people would rather lose a little money at a really fun table than win a little money at a miserable table.

No, this dealer is a socially awkward Asian guy. The player he was talking to didn't even acknowledge his presence. He's inappropriate and socially awkward with everyone.

I agree, there are dealers that have that kind of relationship with players. There's also bad players that don't mind be intentified. This casino lets players pick their name to log in to the table and there's bad players who pick names like "donkey" and "Free money".

That's another weird thing about this casino. They changed ownership and went through a banning phase. They banned like 10 regs. One of them got banned by a dealer he had a report with and had known for 20 years. They used to hang out outside the casino. I wasn't there, but I was told it was just a normal friendly back-and-forth like:

Player: You suck.
Dealer: No, you suck.
Player: No, you suck.
Dealer: Floor! I want this guy banned!

I swear they're trying to just get rid of poker players. Poker is tiny percent of the casino's profits and probably a hassle.
