88 trying to find a call on a K94 77 board.
5/5
~$600
UTG - loose fish
MP is also a fish, but an active one. He mixes a raise/limp strategy, sometimes raising with 98s and other times limping with it.
UTG limps, MP raises to $20 (standard open raise is 20+limpers), Hero(BU) 8♣8♠ 3bets to $70, MP calls
Flop($155) K♠ 9♥ 4♥
x x
Turn($155) 7♦
MP bets $100, Hero calls
River(355) 7♠
MP(~$300 left) bets $150, Hero - ?
What do these weird river bet sizes usually indicate? He bets 75% on the turn and then, instead of shoving, he bets 40% with about $150 left. I think that typically represents something like KJ.

Whatever he has, it looks like it beats 88.
honestly id just flat pre but having not done that u wanna range bet flop. if you're going to choose some hands to induce with, this wouldn't be one i'd pick. idk what's going on otr but i think id call now
hearts, gutters, 65, spazzes, somewhat unclear to me exactly how many Kx type hands he can really have from pre and if he go for 2 streets with them, sizing is weird, blah blah. i could much more easily be talked into folding the turn as opposed to folding the river for half pot semi readless vs active fish, but realistically just bet ur range otf and go from there
Y u no c-bet K-high flop?
Pre - looks fine.
Flop - who cares that we have 3rd pair? It's a king-high, two-tone board, with very few 2P combos in V's range. Just fire out a c-bet like we have AK. C'mon, man. You're better than this.
Turn - I mean...fold?
He's betting 2/3 pot, but we gave him the green-light to start bluffing when we checked back flop. I guess we could float and see what he does on the river, or maybe get spicy and raise as a bluff, because he's a LOL-stakes fish, but...I dunno. I think it's okay to let this one go, yet I don't hate floating when we block 98.
River - Hearts missed. Any weird-a$$ straight draw he picked up on the turn missed. We lose to Kx, 9x, and 7x. But...I'm always skeptical of these 1/2 pot or smaller bets from recs. I'd think he'd want to size up with trips or better, and just check 9x and weak Kx, after we call his 2/3 pot turn bet.
Definitely not trying to raise him now. Not sure if he takes this line with any show-down value we beat. But his pre-flop action, flop check, and turn bet size sort of reeks of JT, a hand that rarely gets folded pre, flops an ISSD, turns a double-gutter, bricks out, and has to fire out a bet on the river.
We double-block 98 and 87. I think that's good?
I dunno, man. I still probably fold, but might tank a little while, and see if we can pick up a tell before we let it go. Eyeball him a little, see if he flinches.
ETA - just read the rest of the thread. I tend to agree with submersible. Something about the line and bet sizing doesn't smell right. Like, who bets 2/3 pot with value, then only bets 1/2 pot on the river, leaving an equal amount behind? What is this line repping?
So...I change my answer. I think we should call, but I'm not loving it, and really think we should have c-bet the flop, to avoid this, but by checking, we induced this, so we have to pay it off.
