1-2/1-2-5bs QJs on J5378 vs. LAG
Don't often find spots that feel worth posting anymore, and TBF this might also be one ... but it was pretty damn weird for a few reasons even for 1-2, so hopefully you'll be amused by it if nothing else.
1-2 at MGM on an american football sunday promo night, actually the game/promo just ended so everyone's been here for 4+ hours and most are ready to leave.
V1 "Young" black stupidbanana. Came from a broken table and has been calling/raising a lot pre. also straddling his BTN every time and UTG straddling at least 50% of the time. $600ish
HH1 Almost first hand I played with V1, although I'd seen him call (even call limps) ... I open AQo UTG (maybe UTG+1) to 12, V1 3bets to $30-35, I sigh and call showing the guy on my left who plays here a lot more than I do ... and he says roughly "that guy is very aggressive, but what you going to do"
HH2 Maybe 20 hands later V1 opens to 15 in MP (4 players off the BTN), folds to me in SB and I see AsQs and consider 3bet but I've still seem him limp a bunch although I've seen him 3bet at least once more and raise/cbet/call-65bb-ish and lose to A8o on A42. I decide to just call like a fish/nit, BB calls, 332cc flop he cbets 25, I call, BB folds; turn 332cc 6x, I check, he quickly bets 55 ... I think I'm probably ahead enough, but really don't want to just call down AQ high yet so fold like a fish/nit.
The table has probably played 20-40 hands more and I've seen him fire decent bets into pots when it seemed very unlikely he had something and people folded (making me sigh about my AQ fold more after the fact).
V2 Older WG guy, bad/meh reg, likes to overplay SC and 1 gappers. Also came from the same broken table. $600ish. HH: Over-over-overcalled 97s in BB from my UTG raise to 12 and donk bet 15 flop on 993ss, then 30 turn K + 30 river brick. Has also been opening super wide in EP/BB/SB vs. BTN straddles.
V3 25ish WG complete dead money, would be better off playing slots short term. Just sat down with 200 and has no idea what he's doing. Said "it's the first time I've played I.R.L.". $200
H Maybe has an image with V1/V2 of being tight and maybe passive (and maybe foldy vs. V1, but who knows I assume he likes firing vs. everyone). ~$550
OTTH
1-2
V2 open limps UTG+1
1 fold
H makes it 12 with QdJd
...
Dealer stops play and says V1 straddled the button so action moves back to V2
...
1-2-5
V2 opens to 15
H thinks (fair quickly) this is the most full of **** line ever and makes it $35.
1 fold
V3 asks lots of questions showing he has no idea wtf is going on and calls
V1 calls
V2 calls
Pot: 140 (and probably +3 from the blinds but -9 from the rake)
Flop: J53r (1 diamond), x, I bet 60, V3 folds, V1 calls, V2 folds
J high is kind of bad for my range (but I did hit), and low cards are way more likely in V1 range and some in V2 range.
But I did hit, and the human in me sees there's piles in the pot and I'd kind of like some folds and/or define some ranges.
I'm not shocked to see BTN call, but assume he's wide and I'm very often ahead.
Pot: 260
Turn: J53 7hh, x, V1 bets 85-115 (I can't remember the exact amount ... but it was bigger than 60 and def. not more than 125), H calls
For sure V1 can have 64/75 but also he has everything else. I consider betting but I assume he'll fold the worst hands and raise a decent amount so I check for him to just bluff away and I don't have to call off a shove. After he bets I consider shoving, but run bad and I think I'd rather not block Jx hands (and it's always possible he has AJ/KJ) so being a fish/nit I just call.
Pot: ~460 (430-490)
River: J537 8, x, V1 bets two big stacks of red ... I ask for a count and it's 225
Not a full spoiler (give my action/thoughts but not results), but probably worth looking at after you've thought about it...
Spoiler
H thinks he's probably at bottom of range, and should likely be a robot fold (although lol robot gets here like this). But I unblock hearts, and there's some chance he's going spazz with JT/J9 and roughly 666 missed draws he'd probably over bluff with and the only SC that win are T9/87. A few suited 1-2 gappers that are good (J8/85/75/64) and maybe, and I think he's def. bet all for value ... if he's thinking at all this size seems weird, like I'm probably folding AK/AQ/KQ with hearts but I'm not folding QQ+ (maybe he thinks it's looks like value). I have less than 100 behind, and he has a bit more.
Anyway, I'm not raising and I didn't get here with this line with one pair to fold on this card so I didn't really tank (paused long enough for V not to think I'm snap calling, even though I pretty much am).
Obviously feel free to point and laugh at anything, but esp. not sure if people think I should be just shrug x/r shoving turn with reads or b/f (or even b hoping for a raise to call?). Also, I guess, preflop 😉

I 3bet bigger pre -- at least $50. I bet bigger on the flop, but $60 is OK. Just shove the turn. If you don't shove the turn, call the river.
I agree with going bigger pre-flop. What a weird spot with the dealer error though.
I kind of like check/jamming the turn. This is a favorite line of mine OOP to this young LAG player type. I think they over-defend against 3bets and never fold flop to small cbets, so you can catch them bluffing a lot on turn as they try to get you to fold AK. That said, the reality is that check/calling turn and then hero calling river may be better. At the same time though, I think check/calling turn looks pretty strong and I would expect people to give up on river quite a bit (or XB with a monkey bet like 56 or 76). Check/jam turn puts flush draws and worse JX in a nasty spot too.
As played, I think I am content to call this river. I would expect a big hand to try and go for all the money here. Props to this guy if he is going for thin value with something like a better Jack. The last time I played at MGM Springfield I played against a guy who fits your description and he won every pot against me (including a hand where he called a squeeze for 1/3 of his stack with T8s and got a full double from me on KTT board).
Grunch:
Raise bigger pre. At least $45.
Check flop. Let someone stab.
As played on flop, think I check raise turn versus this V, on this fairly wet board.
As played on turn, nothing to do but check-call river.
Now off to read the rest...
Have you seen any of V1’s hole cards? Against an aggressive player, I am never confident about a read until I see hole cards.
People favoring the turn jam: would you also favor a jam if V1 was TAG?

Saw very few ... he was playing at least 60%+ of hands, and I only remember him folding a BTN straddle once... when it went raise 15, 3bet 50 before it got to him. Non fold % was high, but he was still getting a lot of folds post (I've seen a few people do this recently, and it confuses me). Would guess he was folding post around 50% of hands he limped/called preflop ... but a lot of those were 3-5 ways. Also the hand he lost to A8o.
I'd seen him limp or call hands pre. like T8s/86s and bet them for draw value, which turned out to be value by showdown. But, again, very few showdowns.
Should maybe have also mentioned that while there were few reveals, there had been a couple of times he bet on the river and the other person showed and he mucked ... at least once when his opp. hesitated and he obviously knew he should show and was very reluctant to do so (and didn't).
Spoiler
As said, H calls river and V shows ... 5h4h ... which I kind of don't mind on the turn, just hate all the other streets.
Also V snap racked up his last 100ish after the hand ... which he maybe doesn't do if I shove turn and he calls, but who knows it was late and I left soon after.
Reminds me of something I heard at the table not too long ago, "He over-agressed himself."
