pocket pair on flop

pocket pair on flop

I want you to give me your opinions about this hand. I played this hand on NLH cash game 25-50 peso (1-2 USD) 9max in Mexico. At this time, I had 44.

hero SB effective stack 15000 peso
opponent Cutoff effective stack 7500 peso

Preflop
Cutoff call
SB raise 400 peso
Cutoff call

Flop 850 peso
5️8️9❤️
SB check
Cutoff bet 600 peso
SB call

Turn 2050 peso
4
SB check
Cutoff check

River 2050 peso
9
SB check
Cutoff bet 1300 peso
SB raise 4500 peso
Cutoff fold

I have two questions. What was the hand an opponent had and should I call on this spot? I have played poker with this opponent many times and he has bluffed a lot with air hands. I thought that he would bet with 6 or 7 on flop. When I raised on river, he thought for a long time.

Raising from the SB w/ 44 is questionable, but it's OK vs. the right player type.

If I'm going to continue with the hand, I donk the flop as if I have an over pair. I might call the 600 depending on read of V.

Turn is fine if you expect V to bet again. I might lead the river, but you probably got the max. Again, depends on my read of V -- will he stab or not? Will he bluff/raise? Will he call a bet?

Preflop raise seems a little large but OP was there so maybe it's within the context of the gameflow.

Flop: Heads-up I'd prefer to c-bet here. AP, I would fold unless I felt V was very LAG.

AP turn: I think it's close but I prefer to lead out on the turn here. We have all kinds of mid-pairs here that need to deny equity and the board is draw-heavy. V is not checking his 76.

AP river: A x lets V bluff but perhaps sacrifices thin value. We would need a decent read on V to x. A value bet from H targets a relatively narrow range but may get looked up light by A5, A8 or 77/66. A polar bet only gets called by 9x, backdoor flush and the rare 76.

I think value bet>polar bet>x. But it 's very close.

AP river the raise is too big. A min-click raise is very strong but in this case, H would offer 5-2 to call and I think V has to call his 9x, 77 and 66 and possibly re-raise his flushes.
