HJ - Very weird and tricky player. I see him playing at the casino almost every day, but his lines sometimes look very strange. I’d describe him as an experienced recreational player who at least knows what he’s doing.

Hero(UTG) TT raises to $20, MP calls, HJ 3bets to $120, Hero - ?

What range do you usually call in these spots? Many charts suggest calling all pairs + suited broadways, but this kind of 3-bet is completely unbalanced and obviously weighted towards strong hands.
I often feel dumb calling with hands like JTs just because that’s what all the charts and preflop recommendations suggest.

This seems like an easy fold unless you have AK/QQ+. Although the solver sometimes calls with a smattering of hands like 88/77/65s, you're close to the bottom of your range here and OOP to two players, so I'd fold and wouldn't sweat it.

I also fold and don't sweat it. That's just too big of a 3bet to bother set mining with, especially OOP vs. a tricky player.

That's a bigger 3! than I'd expect. 80, maybe 100, is more expected. They're IP, after all. So, either they don't want much action, or they're so excited/tired of getting sucked out on, they want money now. Reads help you distinguish one V from the other.

I don't like calling with pretty much all of my non-folding range here to such a big 3!. We'll be OOP on a call (assuming MP doesn't backraise, which further makes me not want to call), with a pot of 260/270, or 360/370 with an MP overcall, and 580 back. Seems awkward, though the low spr mitigates the OOP a bit.

I guess we can minclick 4! some of our range---mainly AA, some KK---and jam things like AQo-AKo & the rest if we think this sizing is indicative of a middle PP we want to fold.

TT/JJ is a fold w/o reads that ripping it will get them to fold.

The problem being that given your description of V the 3-bet is not "obviously weighted towards strong hands". Weird and tricky how often?

Yeesh.

Why's he raising so large from IP? That sort of sizing always screams "JJ or TT" to me, and we have TT, so I'd think he's got JJ a lot. Though maybe low stakes recs also do this with QQ+/AK.

I really hate folding TT-QQ in spots like this, but we're nowhere near deep enough to set-mine.

I *MIGHT* call sometimes, if MP is the sort who'll think he's getting the right odds to come along. My thinking is that HJ might slow down and check back flop against 2 callers, whereas he's likely to c-bet a ton vs just 1 caller, and with two opponents, we'll have a better chance of doubling or even tripling up if we do flop a set.

But mostly, I just rage-fold, and pray for a hand we can GII with him.

What software do you use for preflop simulations? Where can I set my opponents ranges and view GTO solutions?
