Playing stupid and flop middle set

1/3 NLHE 9 handed

Table is late on Sunday night, 2 or 3 am. Game is getting worse and we're up and getting ready to leave. V sat down on our right a few hands ago and then made a big production of switching seats to our left. We asked to draw cards for the seat half jokingly (there's no priority at our casino, all players that want a seat change have to draw a card for it, high card wins). But V just took the seat and is now on our left.

V - Good TAG, plays 2/5 and PLO. At 1/3 he doesn't get too out of line as he knows bluffing isn't very profitable at our game, that said he's very capable of bluffing. Can't really think of any weaknesses in his game...maybe too straightforward postflop with his hands and somewhat face up? I can usually hand read him pretty well when I'm watching his hands play out but I generally avoid big pots with him. He's tighter than me. VPIP maybe 15-20%. 600$ BTN. I cover.

---

Folds to hero in the CO who sees 8 8 and opens 10, V 3-bets to 20,

Aside: this is our first hand together tonight other than one other when he was on my right and I 3-bet him with KK pre to 4x from the SB - he folded saying he had a wheel Ace and that I made the 3-bet way too big...now everyone's laughing and he's saying he will "teach me to 3-bet".

H 4-bets to 30, V 5-bets to 40, H calls...everyone laughing...the table sees us as the two competent players. HU OOP.

Flop 80 (540 back) - Q 8 5

I check, V bets 25, I x/r to 50, V calls...everyone still laughing

Turn 180 (490 back) - 3

I check, V checks

River 180 (490 back) - 6

I lead 200...

can you explain your reasoning behind what appears to be button clicking?

I don't really have a problem with fooling around pre- and on the flop. But not betting the turn here after check-raising flop is a tragedy. Flopping a set in a re-raised pot is such a big money spot... don't mess around. You need to try and get all the money in if you can. Bet something like $100 on the turn and you can easily jam river.

This reminds me of the joke about Jesus and St. Peter golfing together. The punchline is, "so are we gonna play golf or you wanna keep f**king around."

PRE - for crying out loud, Banana, stop opening to $10 at 1/3. The rake will eat you alive. Just tighten your range slightly and open to $15.

His min-click 3B is BS. Your min-click is taking a bad joke and making it less funny. I get what you're doing, as far as the mental leveling game goes, but none of these raises actually creates any fold equity, so all we're doing is bloating the pot that we'll be playing OOP post-flop.

If you want to make your point, use the same "too big" size he criticized you for, and 4B him to $80. If he 5B's you then, just fold.

FLOP - So...we're not gonna play golf, we're gonna keep f**king around, is that it?

You could not have asked for a better flop scenario. Check-raise 10x, to $250. We're NEVER folding. Just make it $250, wink at him, and if he calls, jam any turn.

TURN - I can't even. It's too early for April Fool's day. Why in the name of all that's holy would you x/r the flop, and then check turn on a brick? Did you think he'd blast off? Just barrel for $150, so he knows play time is over, and you're serious. Pray he jams over the top.

RIVER - I hate everything you've done to this point, so at least you're consistent. As played to this point, you should bet $20, and pray to the poker gods he puts in an obnoxiously large raise, so you can jam.

I'm serious. You can't play the entire hand like you're just screwing around, and then over-bet the river, and expect him to raise. I can't imagine him even calling when he checks back the turn. If it wasn't obvious, he doesn't have anything better than 1P, and maybe not even that.

If you bet $20 and he calls, say, "I missed", and lift your cards like you're about to muck, wait for him to turn over whatever, then fast roll your hand.

If you're going to screw around like this, commit to the act, and cap it off with a nasty slow-roll. He can't get angry, when he played his hand the same way.

Make a regular sized x/r on the flop. 100 might be OK. You have to bet the turn.

These hands seem made up. I don’t know if that’s worse than if they’re not.

I dont get it, is this a home game between drunk college buddies?
