A7s in early
Watched this hand.
UTG is a reg that has survived the 1/3 NL for 5-6 years. LJ is an OMC and very sticky. I assume UTG knows this.
UTG raised to $20, folded to OMC who 3-bets to $80. OMC has $200+ and UTG easily covers.
Watching the hand, it is clear to me that OMC has JJ+ (and probably better), I have a hard time believing UTG doesn't see the same thing.
Anyway, the flop had two 7's and UTG felts OMC, who had KK.
I just don't see why UTG made the play, it looks stupid to me.

Sometimes late in the night when you've been running bad and/or card dead you see a faint lighthouse beacon like A7s and decide "this is the hill I'm dying on". Mine was A9 of diamonds last week as a 3-bet gii at ~80 BBs.
Obviously, really bad. The open with A7s is probably questionable too. It is very common at low stakes that people don't want to fold preflop. Usually, it is not regs.
The insidious thing about poker is that player is going to remember the one time he had A7 and felted KK forever., while forgetting all the times that he had to fold it post flop or get out kicked. That's why the games remain good.
One time at 1/3, there was a raise and call of 15, and I made it 60 with QQ from the SB. Caller sees I only have 180 behind and moves in. I think for a few seconds and he asks why am I thinking. It don't know what he had, but my hand was good on an AK board. Some people just don't like to fold and don't think about how strong someone's range is or don't care if they are not the favorite. I was worried my 3! with the short stack would look too strong.
An OMC puts in 40% of his stack, A7s is at best 30% or so against whatever the 3-bettor has. A7s doesn't play well against AK/AQ/TT/99, etc. Just awful to call to see a flop with an SPR of 0.7.
Also, that someone is a 1/3 reg doesn't make him a good player. Maybe there is a reason he isn't a 2/5 reg, not that higher stakes players are necessarily better.
It's a skill game. The reg obviously knew he was going to flop trips.

Was this a hand where it went all-in pre? Or did UTG just call 3-bet?
Anyone who multitabled tournaments or SNGs would know not to do this. However, someone who has just been playing 1/3 for a few years might not understand the basics of short stack play.
Almost every single poker room is propped up by all the regs who "survive"... which is simply to say they can financially tolerate their long term losses.
