A9 limp pot
Hero 1.1k effective
Been at the table for 7 hours main V has 3.5k has been very bluffy only caught twice hasn't shown anything good when he does win hands. Range seems wide three barrel bluffer and 3 or 4 betting as bluffs. Straddle on for 10 im UTG+1 and there are four callers main V on the button limped too.
Flop opens
A55 rainbow
checks to me I raise 35$ folds to V who re-raises to 75$
folds to hero calls.
turn 10 completes rainbow no flush draws.
hero bets 105$
V smooth tank calls.
river comes
10 hero checks
V jams for 3k
Hero???

I have no idea whats going on in this hand
I think I follow it. Limped A9s or A9o from UTG +1. Really bad if offsuit. Not sure I bet this flop, and as played probably need to fold to the raise. Get raised on the flop with paired board and then donk the turn.
On the river, the board is A55TT and he bets about 900 effective into about 400, and you want to know what to do with A9? His line looks suspect. Does he have quads. He raised the flop and now is representing a T. He may be a bluffer, but I don't think it is profitable to get into this sort of situation or to call down for stacks with this hand.
Limp was really bad, and here you are. Vs. this player, I don't think I can fold.
Don't limp A9 UTG. Esp. don't limp it when bluff happy V with a giant stack is on the BTN.
Flop: WTF did you bet the flop for? What do you think V has when he raises you, just any2 hoping nobody has a 5?
Turn: WTF did you donk bet the turn for? If your read is V is bluffing air, let him bluff air and not fold it.
River: Why are you checking river? Now he shoves, after calling turn. You are praying he has KQ/KJ that raised flop with good Ax blockers and is now shoving? Or just any2 the entire way assuming he'll bluff his way out?
I mean if your read is good that he always has air and assumes people will just fold everything, I guess call when you beat nothing and hope.
V's line looks a lot like 5x that wasn't sure if the kicker was good on the turn, but again if he can have rando Q4s here or something then do what you want.
Spoiler
Hero tank calls V shows the absolute nuts A10
Actually 55 beats AT.
Well played. It was just a cooler.
Some very good points in here and I'll add my $.02:
1. Now you can see why all of the literature says to either raise or fold. A9 UTG , even if it's suited, is not good to play from that position. You have to fold it.
2. If you had bet preflop, then you can eliminate a number of hands. Paired boards on flops should also always give you pause, but there are not a lot of combos containing 5X. On the other hand, without a preflop bet, his range is uncapped so he can basically have a ton of 5X from the button.
3. A shove this deep stacked is extremely rare unless the player has something huge. I have a method that helps me tremendously in those situations and it has been spot on each time. I ask myself two, simple yes/no questions: Would they bet this way on this texture board if they have it? Would they bet this way on this texture board if they are bluffing? With the absolute nuts the answer is that they absolutely would. If you ask the other question...would they shove that keep on that texture board if they didn't have it? On a paired board with an ace showing? No way.
A9o is a fold in early position. There are some situations when it gets passed or limped to you in late position when you might play it. Limp/folding is probably better than raising, as you lose less. Most pros don't limp in ep. If you limp in ep, you should have a pp or Axs or something where you want to encourage of multiway pot; or it is OK to limp/call with a fairly wide range of hands you could raise if it is getting 3! a lot. You may see a lot of limp/calling of marginal hands like this, but it is a donk play and a leak.
On A55, an ace is a bluff catcher, and you probably don't want to put much in. When he overbet shoves on A55TT, you don't beat much, and he likely has close to the nuts. If he is bluffing, he could still beat you with say AJ. You way overplayed your hand on every street.
