1/3 NLHE 9 6 handed.

Table is late overnight game. We were up 400$ but somehow bled down to even on our 500$ BI. So we have 500$ to start the hand.

V - unknown 20s white guy. Seems semi-aware. Not many showdowns, has limped J6s and checked his straddle with J8o. Has been involved in some big pots and seems fairly TAG. Could be running hot or bluffing here an there, not sure. Covers my 500. Hasn't 3-bet very often, maybe once an hour or so. VPIP around 15-20%. So somewhat tighter pre. BB.

---

one limp to H who opens A Q to 15, CO BTN and SB call 15, V to 65 from BB, we call, CO BTN and SB fold. HU IP.

Flop 175 - J 8 6

V cbets 50, we call

Turn 275 - 9

V checks, we bet 125... leaving 260 back.

I'm folding preflop unless I know the villian to be splashy. I used to often call in situations like this but I'm convinced I'm just bleeding money vs a typical live players 3 betting range with a hand that's going to almost always be dominated/reverse implied odds.

Seems OKish postflop. Should be getting AK and any random garbage to fold. (A5 suited, 54 etc, maybe KQ.

Preflop is a weird spot.
V's squeeze size seems way too small, which incentivises a call in position. The problem is that you are not sure to play the postflop in position, since CO and BTN are still to act.
I'd fold to the squeeze, but this time it worked out fine (CO and BTN folded), so all good 😉

Flop hits your range more than V's, imo.
You might want to raise with your overcards and backdoors once in a while, but admittedly I'd also call in flow most of the times.

Turn is another weird spot, mainly because of SPR=1.4.
You are betting less than half pot ott, and if you get called, you will be left with less than half pot otr, not ideal ...

My feeling is that you should shove with both value and (semi-)bluffs.
The question is if your specific hand should be part of your bluffing range ott.
Actually I don't hate a check back here and, if V checks again or bets small, shove river on a blank or a heart.

Sometimes, the answers are right in front of us.

Really don't like the preflop call, you're going to end up multiway OOP almost always.

I like betting turn, not sure whether going for two streets (or bet and give up) is better than shove. I think I like shove

Ok thanks mox. The reason I called pre was a combination of having folded to this guy throughout the night for a 3-bet pre and card deadness. I felt he had to be lighter than AQo here and his sizing seemed small.

Result:

Spoiler
Show

I make it 125, he xr shoves after some Hollywood and I snap fold. Never get a reveal.

First you you are not aware of how you dropped 130 BBs you are too tired to play properly. Second I realize the sample size is small but V is 3 betting roughly the top 3% of hands. How do you think your hand interacts with that range? There are players where I'd like a 4 bet in response; against this V as described I like a fold.
