Cooler vs Spew

It took me losing 1k+ in 1 night to notice the difference between cooler and spew.

All of a sudden I woke up and realized I was spewing money. Of course in game I played it off and call it coolers. Kept thinking and thinking and came up with the conclusion they were just pure spew.

Vs randoms they're coolers because I know nothing about them.

Vs a villain who I know fairly well, I was just making excuses to treat it as coolers.

Not sure what kind of pools you guys play in. But the pool I play in, maybe half of them know how to adjust to different opponents, the other half just play their cards/style. The former are the decent players, the latter are the fishes/recreationals.

In my world, I was thinking I was adjusting to different players, ie. 3betting/squeezing lighter vs lags for value. Playing more aggro vs them etc.
But the thing is that most of them that aren't pure aggro spewtards adjust to me as well. My image is nitty/tagish. Their adjustments to me is overfolding to me.
I see this kind of adjustment but I wasn't adjusting to their adjustments.

In a specific hand vs a specific lag, when lag called my turn bet my alarm bell was going off, on river, board paired I continued betting, he shipped on top. I had a bottom boat, I knew I was beat in range analysis. But I asked how much more to call in game, response was only 300 more. Then inside my head I made an excuse to call, it was only 300 more, I have a boat, it's a 'cooler'.

No, it's not a cooler, it's a pure spew for thinking 'only 300 more, it's a boat, it's a cooler if you're beat'. This **** is pure nonsense. It was an excuse to play it off, this was the devil inside me begging to call, and call it a cooler if we lose. Vs unknowns yea it was pure cooler. Vs this specific lag who was pretty decent and overfolding to me all the time preflop and postflop, it was pure spew.

It's like I picked up on all the info, had all the reads, and then making bad plays because they're 'coolers', 'it's only 300 more'.

Ok, only lost 500 the first hand vs this lag.
Guess what, later on, lost another 500 vs same lag.

We open in sb(Mississippi straddle), V in Co calls(alarm bells go off again), low board, we check/raise, V 3bets small
Again in my head I play it off again, if I were villain I'd 3bet as well to fold my overpairs range etc. Eventually I shipped, V snap called and won with better hand of course.

Ok check/raise was probably bad vs this specific villain, instead of picturing him as a lag, I should picture he's a nit vs me. Wtf, am I check/raising this board for. I played it off in my head, this is how marc goone plays blah blah blah.
We could've check/called to bluff catch.
After he 3bets, we still had a chance to fold but no, inside my head, I'm like he's FOS with his 3bets, because that's what I do online. But this is live. He's been super nitty vs me specifically.

So yea, I knew they were pure spew, but I've tried tricking myself to believe they're coolers. They're coolers vs unknowns but vs a villain who you know inside and out, they're just pure spew.

What's funny is, the same table I was playing on, 2 other guys treated me as aggro, trying to trap me all night. Then I cold 4 betted for the first time vs them, they folded, but 1 muttered I kept 4betting him, I'm like wtf bro this is my first 4bet, wtf are saying. If he doesn't believe me he should've shipped. At the end of the day, we all live inside our minds. We only believe what we want to believe.
