Definitely 3!ing 2.5-3x. Size up if you think remaining players won't fold to smaller. I can get behind anything from $30-$45 depending on how sticky we think Vs behind will be. We really don't want to be called by CO or BTN.

Thinking fold, hero calls
I hate it when that happens
Guessing maybe 40% equity
3 players behind with position
Just didn’t like the raise

Hero calls
HJ 3bets 35, opening villain folds
There’s a new villain and hero is OOP
Villain is known, plays a LAG style and
is an average player at best.

Hero?

You’re getting a pretty good price to call again

Call now given the price and the V is fine if you are comfortable playing against him. 4betting a LAG would be fun, though -- as if you flatted a big hand just to get the opportunity. Depends on how LAG he is and how often/wide he 3bets.

In theory this is a call, but that is assuming that the V is raising hands like K9, QJ, etc. that we have dominated sometimes.

Exploitatively, this might be a fold even against a typical $1/$3 "LAG". But I would probably call and be watching for an opportunity to bluff.

4-betting doesn't make much sense to me.

Ignoring the fold screaming in my head, Hero calls to see a flop with pot odds maybe 25%

(95) flop Jh6c2s
Hero checks (should (KdJd)donk here?)
Villain bets 45
Hero?

Call again. Let him keep betting.

Absolutely not a donk, you want him to c-bet his air and you're behind a good chunk of the time. Since you have to call, you want to make sure his range is as wide as possible so that you are ahead sometimes to offset the times he has AJ+.

FWIW, "LJ" in an 8 handed game is UTG+2, which means Villain raised in UTG+1, so pretty trivial fold for me in this early configuration.

ETA: And even though we're getting good odds facing the ~minnish reraise, we're going to be OOP and often with a dominated hand. Our postflop IO vs RIO suck, so I fold again.

ETA#2: Have no idea why we'd consider donking the flop against an aggrotard who's going to cbet 100% of the time when checked to. And here's where those great pot odds preflop get us, postflop with a mediocre TP in a 3bet pot OOP. Nothing else to do but call at this point, but life isn't going to get any easier on later streets.

Call. And probably have to keep calling if this guy is really that aggro

Could be behind, drawing dead - but feel like it’s close to 70% equity.
Hero calls

(190) turn Jh6c2sJc

Hero’s equity skyrockets maybe 95%
Again Hero first to act

Check and let him fire again. If he doesn't, lead the river. Unfortunately, it's going to be tough to get much out of him unless he has QJ or JT type hand.

I could see leading for ~$75, too. What's your image?

What are the pros and cons of betting (aggressive) and checking (to call, passive, and check/raise, aggressive)?

Will an aggressive player continue betting air here if checked to but fold air if bet into on this scare card? Are there really that many draws to protect against / get value from with a check/raise? Will an aggressive player perhaps even continue betting pocket pairs, perhaps even for three barrels? And obviously he'll continue to barrel worse Jx.

Even though we most likely have the best hand, passively checking to call seems like a pretty decent option in this spot. Against a straightforward ABC non-bluffy MUBSy player, aggressively donking the turn may make more sense as they'll check behind so often.

There is zero reason to donk. You want V to bet with all his air, and you want V to believe he is ahead with QQ/TT. If he has the last J, the money is getting in. Give V a chance to bet. If he does, we are raising. If he doesn't, we are betting big OTR.

Reason being that if we bet, V will fold all his air and will flat call with hands like FDs, TT, QQ, KK etc. Unless V has a J or a boat already, he probably isn't going to raise. And with and even with a weak J like JT, he might opt to just flat.

If we check, V will sometimes bet with air, sometimes bet with QQ, maybe even TT, and maybe semi-bluffs with FDs (though that's a bit spewy, sometimes LAGs spew). We can then x/r and expect all Jx to call, and V is in the blender with QQ and FDs.

I don't like check-calling because what do we do on the river? If we lead, all the hands that would fold to a x/r will still fold. Some hands that might call the x/r like a FD are only going to call if they get lucky and we lose. Meanwhile, hands like QQ vs a x/r can convince themselves that maybe H has the BDFD and is semi-bluffing.

So go for the x/r, and if checked through, we'll bet big OTR and hope V thinks we are FOS and can't fold QQ or TT gets sticky. Or maybe we get lucky, and an A hits and V has AK/AQ.

Reveal
Hero bet 25
Villain folds

Made a stupid move
I got it in mind that a tiny donk
would look like weakness
Like I got a little something, don’t bet anymore

Fancy me
I was shocked when he folded

Should have checked and let him blast off

I’m very good with the redline, often getting people to fold better hands. But I suck at getting value, making moves where none are needed. A work in progress if anyone has suggestions.

Still can’t believe he folded to a quarter

A very small donk on the turn to rep a small showdownable hand attempting to cheaply get to showdown and induce a raise is a fairly advanced play that needs an advanced Villain to fall for / react to it accordingly. Not a horrible play against the right player, but against someone described as "average at best" perhaps not the best line (although far from a "stupid move" and would be my second choice, imo).

Check call flop and check raise turn would be the preferred line. You need a specific image and villain to lead the turn.

Do NOT fold pre, you don't have to be GG and limit your hourly to McDonalds. I'd just 3bet mostly. Call isn't terrible.
