AQs vs AI

Cardroom, 2/5, 8 handed, $1200 max buy.

The table has been running for 6 hours as a main game and the feeder table has been busy. I was moved here only 20 minutes prior with a $1500+ stack. Only 2 players are shorter. There are only 2 players with whom I don't have lots of history.

V is someone I know well. He plays short a lot and does it well. He looks for spots to double and will patiently fold till he finds one. MAWG. He's UTG and goes AI pre. His range here is 99+ and maybe AQ+. He probably doesn't have AA or KK though both are possible and he's hoping the AI signals weakness.

UTG+1 folds and it is to me with AQs.

There are 5 behind me and all but 1 are leaning forward with interest. I ask for a count...$170.

There is still interest in the hand from those behind me and 2 of them have squeeze plays in their bag if I call. One of them could squeeze with ATC, the other with as low as JTs. The only 1 of the 5 that dont have me covered is the guy showing no interest.

My image is a solid, tight player who is a long term winner in this game. But I can be pushed out of pots.

Fold, call, raise?

Fold

I like to have an advantage when I invest.
Sure, you flip with most pocket pairs, but that’s not an advantage. You drop to less than 30% facing AK, which seems likely. There’s really no reasonable hand where you’re a big favorite.

The reasoning that it’s splashy, get in with a hand that plays well multiway against others that will come in light doesn’t resonate with me. You sound ready to call a squeeze from the unpredictable players behind.

My view of multiway pot odds is not the big pot I might occasionally win. I consider the very unlikely chance I have to win against so many other hands. If you could get in cheap, this would be a great play - but there’s no telling how much a flop will cost.

As no one else is jumping on this thread, I assume it's an obvious fold. I folded. But I was worried that it was a nitty old man fold so that's why I asked here. I didn't think i could stand the heat if I got raised or didn't connect with the flop.

A wildman who had position on me called but didn't show. The AI guy showed TT.

The board ran out JJXXA. I would have scooped but there's a good chance I would never have gotten to the river, so that's irrelevant.

If I had been last to act, I would have flipped with V1 for a $170 pot.
