KK in a multiway pot

KK in a multiway pot

Friday night at a casino, blinds 1 2. This was only my third hand at a new table, so I had no reads on either player.

Hero starts with approximately $500 in the HJ holding KK. BTN and UTG both have around $350.

UTG limps for $2. Hero raises to $10. BTN 3-bets to $20, UTG calls, and Hero 4-bets to $50.

BTN calls and UTG calls.

Pot: approximately $153

Flop: 2 6 8

UTG checks. Hero bets $50. BTN calls and UTG folds.

Pot: approximately $253

Turn: T

Hero shoves. BTN has approximately $250 remaining.

What do you think of Hero’s line?

For context, just before this hand I had also played KK aggressively in position against a younger player who raised me with 55 and I ended up winning the hand. Indeed I noticed that sometimes slow play in those 1 2 is not totally worth it, is it?

With a cold caller I’d go a little bigger pre. Post looks good.

With a cold caller I’d go a little bigger pre. Post looks good.

+1 - agree should size up slightly on the
4b 2.5x sizing due to the 3b cold caller and being 175BB deep. Like your postflop line.

Indeed. 4bet is far too small - make it at least 70, maybe 80. Nobody is folding to your sizing.

Postflop is good. Had you gone larger you might have had some awkward stack sizes on the flop, so it actually worked out quite nicely. Button is going to have 99-QQ quite a bit, or the odd flush draw, and they will call off more often than not

Preflop I’m going 15 over a limp. Also going bigger with the 4b…players at 1/2 aren’t 3b enough (their range is too strong so they’re not going to be folding), so I’m going for max value with the 4b, like 75.

Post flop looks good. V has plenty of overpairs worse than KK that aren’t folding

What are the suits of our K's?

PRE - raise bigger. Make it $15, or at least $12. When he 3B's, I think we can 4B bigger, like $60. Maybe even a little more.

FLOP - if we have the Kd in our hand, I might just check this.

Otherwise, your bet size seems fine. I could see arguments for going smaller or larger, or just checking range in this configuration, on this board, at this SPR, etc.

TURN - I like it.

Seems like a well played hand overall.

Looks good to me. Just remember to put him on a few hands and ask "what if". For instance we'll say "what if he has a flush draw, how much would i bet to make a FD fold? I dont think any flush draw folds here, so lets just rip it for value". Or if you thought he had had some crap pair, "how much would I bet to make an 8 fold? Probably 125, so lets bet 90 to keep him in".

Well played
He called your 4Bet instead of raising, so I don’t think he has aces. The fact that he 3bet means he likely missed this board with little cards.

Without info on villain’s style and how he views you, the river could be a mistake. I’m not sure what he has, but feel sure that we’re value-betting. If he always folds to a jam, but might call 95 this could be a better play, getting the rest in on the river.

Without reads, I like it
The guys been calling, and he has to call more than half the time to keep you from bluffing.
