9c9h at UTG2 on turn

NL2/3. Effective 70bb. I open at UTG2 with 9c9h to 5bb. Straightforward BU calls. A bit aggressive SB also calls.

3-way to flop: Kc6c2d.

I cbet 7bb. BU folds and SB calls.

Turn: 8h

SB checks and I?

The SB checked the flop, right? I check back. You have no equity. The K hits the button’s range. With middle pair, try to get to showdown cheap.

Check turn. Get to showdown.

I think this is a pretty standard check back. If this is an aggressive player, I would think about calling on the river depending on the card and the size he chooses.

I would check this flop OOP multi-way a lot. If you do bet, I think going smaller would be better.

I don't mind taking a stab on a board like this with a cbet (with the aim of folding out things like QJ or AT), and I certainly prefer to do it with 99 on this flop than say QQ which needs less protection from overcards. This would be a no-brainer c-bet if it was heads up against straightforward button, but with SB defo get the check behind.

On turn I'm checking behind knowing we're going to have to do a bit of a soul read if SB leads river.

Checking back. Our hand is not strong enough that we want to protect against his draws, and we certainly don't want to get check-raised.

As said above, you might consider a call OTR.

Bet less on the flop.

Turn you can bet or check, getting x/r is fine because you have basically nothing and block the draws that might x/c flop and x/r turn.

Downsides to betting: K is never folding and draws are never folding. You can't bet river unless you hit a set.

Downsides to checking: Randoms will bet trash Kx on the river, and "bluff bet" randomly sometimes with like 8x/77 for "value" and others with all the draws that missed ... so calling/folding rivers sucks without reads. Sizes will be random too, some will bet small with 66, and others big with Jd8d when it's a good 8x.

Upsides to betting: All the random draws or 8x/77/6x will still call and you can check back river and live rent free in value city.

Upsides to checking: You don't lose more to Kx and if someone has 66 on turn and you hit a 9 on the river they are probably leading and stacking off. Also if V never bluffs river you can x/x river and probably win. Also if a club hits the river and V checks you can think about turning your hand into a bluff (warning: needs reads).

Bet smaller on flop or check back.

As played, mostly checking back turn and you can probably call quite a few rivers. If you're betting turn it's as a triple barrel to try and get SB to fold a King.

I like a big turn bet here.

Not sure if any of these villains would 3b TT and JJ pre but if they just flatted, they would probably fold to a big turn bet. If you get called just check back river.

For future reference, it's easier to analyze these hands if you just use $ figures, rather than BB's, and include pot size on each street.

Just check flop, to make a delayed c-bet on turn, if the flop checks through and SB checks again. If SB leads turn, we can call, depending on the sizing he takes.

If you're going to c-bet the flop, go smaller multi-way, like 1/3 pot, not 1/2 pot.

As played, we're not deep enough to barrel turn and have any significant stack depth left going to the river. Either check, with a plan to fold to a river bet from V, or jam for a little less than 2x pot, and hope he doesn't hero call with some weak Kx.
