Lettuce discuss King-Queen offsuit
1/3 NLHE 9 handed
Hero just sat down with 500 and hasn't played a hand but knows V1 and has a good read on V2 already. BB. 500$.
V1 - asian nit lady. VPIP 10-12%. Linear betting. Limp/calls limp/folds value (QJs, ATs, 99) and opens premiums (JJ+) only 3-bets AA and maybe KK. Face up post. 250$. LJ.
V2 - maniac whale. VPIP 100%, opening 70%. sticky post and calling with anything, chasing all draws. 350$. SB.
---
Hero sees K♦ Q♠ in BB, V1 limps, V2 opens to 15, H raises to 50, V1 calls, V2 calls. 3-ways 2nd to act.
Flop 150 - 7♦ 4♦ 3♦
V2 checks, H bets 50, V1 folds, V2 calls
Turn 250 - K♣
V2 checks, H shoves for V2's remaining 250.

Seems pretty standard.
I'd raise more pre but that's just me. We have a whale who's not likely folding who we're probably crushing. I would raise 65 to 75.
I also don't wanna fold him out so quick ott. Depending on his traits, maybe c/c, crai, or b/c around 125.
The king still hits our AK 3betting range which he probably knows, so maybe he might not wanna chase for pot.
I ask because I'm wondering if I'm raising KQo too much. I'm basically autosqueeze mode with it these days and sometimes I'll catch myself about to raise and realize one of the players involved is a nit and stop. Also I always seem to pick it up OOP. Do you open it UTG pure Playbig? I'm trying to be more careful and this was a hand I lost and so I'm wondering if I'm too wide EP.
My UTG opening range right now is ATo/s+, 88+, KJo/s+, KTs, QJs.
I do open it UTG in most games, but there could be games I would fold depending on the table.
I don't like flatting with it hardly ever, unless I was in a particular dynamic against a raiser I have a long history with that would auto-4bet me, so I might decide to flat then possible play creative instead of just playing fit or fold.
surely you're not considering flatting pre here?
flop could be bet or check, doesnt matter much tbh.
no
I would check flop, but I could be convinced a bet is better. What is the goal of the flop bet?
We sometimes fold out some of v1's better hands. But v2 is rarely folding. The goal might be to build a pot if we hit like we did, but that seems less critical with someone who's likely to call anything anyway
KQo is a hand that can cause problems, because it's easy to over-value.
I think the hand was played fine pre. Not sure about whether to c-bet the flop or check. Think I could go either way, but c-betting 1/3 pot seems okay. Can't be terrible, if we're able to fold if V1 raises, which doesn't seem likely, even if she has us beat.
Turn shove seems okay against a whale that likes to open too wide pre and chase his draws post. It would be nice to have a stronger hand, but TP2K with the 2nd NFD ain't too shabby a hand to jam here.
Result:
Oof.
He's terrible.
Shake it off. Rub some dirt on it, and get back in the game.
I'd go slightly larger preflop just to be that much more comfortable stacking off postflop with TP, but whatever.
2 overs and the second nut flush draw in an SPR of <= 2, I think I just jam the flop to add some FE to my hand equity. Even just getting Ax(noflushdraw) to fold (which they will) is a huge coup.
As played I also jam the turn. ETA: Doing anything else against a whale who will chase with any piece seems horrible to me.
ETA: Regarding KQo preflop, in my opinion it is a pretty garbage hand from anywhere but LP (I fold it without a second thought in EP, and will often just overlimp lots of limpers in LP/blinds). But obviously against a 70% raiser its the nuts preflop and I'm cool with 3betting it (although we do have to be aware of others limping in monsters to tarp the maniac), plus I'll sometimes 3bet against a wide open with lottsa callers / dead money (but mostly fold against a reasonable opener).

Interesting counterpoint perspective, thx G.
I fold KQo utg. Mainly raising from MP or LJ depending who’s left to act.
Robots are mostly folding AJo/KQo UTG full ring, but I often open both without a reason not to. KJo I just fold though.
Hand seems fine, HU on flop vs. whale I might bet bigger but with V1 in too I like the size and then we can probably fold to any raise from V1.
Preflop is fine, but sizing up isn't mandatory; villain is already short-stacked.
Flop is fine because the nit will overfold otf and the whale will overcall.
Prefer sizing down ott; we don't want to fold out villain's marginal made hands. Besides, this will make villain's river odds even more attractive when we do jam.
