AKo OTB, too LAGGY?

AKo OTB, too LAGGY?

4/8 Game usual suspects.

9 players, 3 limps to me AKo OTB, I raise, SB folds, BB calls, 3 more calls. 5 BB

Flop is something like J83r

3 checks, player to right bets, I raise, folds to better who calls. 7BB

turn is a brick, check to me, do I barrell and also the river UI?

Why did you raise the flop?

The flop raise is pointless as a pure bluff and pointless as a value raise. That said, I don't hate the flop raise if your goal is to clean up outs in a big pot. If that is indeed your goal, you should probably bet the turn with the idea that it is the last money you put in the pot unimproved. You can also check to induce a bluff, but I think it is better if you bet the turn to charge the part of his range that consists of draws and, once in a blue moon, get him to fold a weak pair. Barreling the river UI after he calls the turn is pointless and he will not fold anything you want him to fold.

Any reads on the guy donking? I think betting the turn is better than checking to induce because we are ahead of all draws.

I think the flop raise is interesting. Not sure I would think to do it at game speed but I find it interesting. My default here is to just call and hope for the best because I don’t want to get 3bet and I don’t want to fold in a big pot. But in a tight passive game it makes a lot of sense to play it this way.

Realtime thinking, probably faulty- I can clean up any chasers behind me and get HU, I probably have 6 clean outs on this board, if a Q hits I might have some bluff options HU so 10 cards that give me some options.

Or I can probably get to the river for free if I miss and if he is donking with T9 or overs. Pretty unlikely but possible.

I do not remember the villian at all so I must not have played with him much before.

Actual hand I missed both streets and checked behind, he showed me a weak Jack.

15 years ago I would throw this line out very rarely and barrel turn and river and get a HU fold about 20% of the time. Nowadays most know to call down with any pair.

Raise makes sense if you are going to keep betting til river.

Save this raise for AKs and a backdoor flush draw on the flop.

Hey man sometimes you don’t get to win the pot but you gave yourself a chance to win it and a free showdown. I’d say that’s a W.
