limping along too much?

4/8 game, typically 4-5 to flop, sometimes more if unraised. Players routinely limping AK, AQ, AJs, JJ and sometimes AA-QQ. Blinds routinely call raises with trash/weak holdings.

2 limpers, I am in CO with KTo. I limp along.

3 limpers, I am BTN with JTo. I limp along.

5 limpers, I am BB with ATo. I check.

Are these close so it doesn't make much difference? Should I be raising? Folding some?

Intuitively I think these are close spots, raising will generally not get me a 4 card flop as many regs will donk if they hit the flop.

are they limping trash?

sometimes yes, sometimes as noted one of them will limp a premium, but some are limping 97o, J2s any A rag, etc.

sure then limp, w/e.

KTo might be better as a raise to buy the button. JTo is trash but really benefits from 4 card flops so maybe raise that too from the button. id wouldnt raise ATo from the bb but its not like doing that is god awful.

yea I feel these are all very situational and player/table condition dependent so its hard to say, 'you must raise here'

I used to raise more from the CO to try to buy the button but got BTN called so much I stopped. Now I have to know the BTN well to try this.

Is JTo really trash in my above scenario? I see an equity advantage against limping and random hands, and I have position on the BTN, I guess you are right it I am going to play it I should raise for the 4 card flop, but as stated a lot of donking goes on in my games.

sounds like you're asking things that are impossible to answer concretly tbh w/o knowing your opponents hole cards. i doubt it matters much if you fold, call, or raise these hands vs their aggregate range.

I wouldn’t raise JTo after three limpets on the button but if you do it can’t be too wrong and if it’s correct it can’t be too right.

yes, probably. Trying to find leaks in my game, I am winning but trying to improve more before I move to 8/16. grinding at 4/8 is getting old fast.

if theres an 8/16 game not playing it now is foolish given the rake. its not like its harder than 4/8.

there is not one presently at my 'close' local casino. 4/8 is biggest LHE game. Been trying to gin up interest from some of the regs, we have been close to getting a table going sometimes but I feel like it would not last with no backup list. Pre covid the regs said 8/16 was a regular game. Maybe COVID took out some of the 8/16 players.

8/16 and larger goes regularly at a place 15 minutes farther drive. The extra money doesn't mean a lot so the extra drive is just a hassle, but I do want to be playing in bigger games in a couple years when I retire when it will matter more.

I would travel the extra 15 minutes and play in a bigger game as I think your game would improve.

Yeah, I need to bite the bullet and just drive. Too comfortable where I am at. If I am going to improve, need a new game.

The costs will go up, besides gas, my place gives decent comps and food is cheaper, other place is a resort- food is about twice as much for same comp structure, more active tables so harder to hit promos.

Hopefully will make that up with smaller rake tax.

Unless you’re playing for a living, I wouldn’t stress too much about this sort of thing. 8/16 is the level where LHE started to make sense for me and I think your game will benefit tremendously from playing something (somewhat) more challenging.

Thanks, not stress, just best practices for expense/profit tracking. My local casino just raised their food prices by a third so the food costs are now the same. One less excuse.
