Low content river spot

Low content river spot

I'm in the BB with AKo. The straddle is on. 2 coldcallers, SB folds, I 3-bet, straddler 4-bets, everybody calls.

I've been playing with straddler for years and I've never seen him get out of line preflop. Ever.

4 players, 16sb, flop is J83r. I check, straddler bets, one caller, I call

3 players, 9.5bb, turn is another 8 that puts a flush draw on the board. I check, straddler bets, we both call.

4 players, 12.5bb, river is a 7. I check straddler bets, caller calls, I?????

I know its a big pot but Im folding the turn.

As played, also folding.

fold turn. i have made bad calls like this before, i cant remember a single time it worked out. best case scenario you river an ace and it gets checked around.

3 players, 9.

I would five bet (cap?). Other than that well played till the river and then I fold. Sorry if the caller picked off a bluff with a worse a-high but this would be a highly losing play in the long run to call.

I'm very surprised to hear people would fold the turn. QQ, KK, and AK are all 100% within the straddler's PF 4! range. He straddled and then 4-bet so AQ, KQ, AJ and KJ are not completely out of the question either (I don't think this guy would put $12 or $16 in the pot cold with any of these hands but it's not out of the question for him to put $8). Caller could have just about any two cards.

I would not fold the turn, but agree with folding river.

Calling the turn is close. Based on the action it appears like the straddler has an overpair and an Ace or King are discounted outs. You may have no outs if straddler has pocket Kings or Jacks and third player has an Ace and he paired his kicker. The third player could even have an oddly played. Even though pot is very big I would probably fold.

I’m not over calling the river.

Turn is close, would call some turns but not this one with the action and V read.

Yeah I’m in favor of calling the turn for sure. Sometimes the river will go x/x/x and you win with AK high. Not often but sometimes.

But why didn’t you put in another raise preflop?

+1 to the 5 bet pre. I missed that.

I assume this hand was played in a place with a 4 bet cap. 5 bets is only standard in Las Vegas.

In some places another bet can go in when there's a straddle, but that's also non-standard.

CRAP! I forgot that I can 5-bet if there's a straddle!

Really? Everywhere I’ve played with a straddle the cap goes up one bet. Well technically the cap isn’t going up one bet, but the straddle just isn’t a raise so doesn’t count towards the x number of raises allowed per street.

I guess I'm not sure about that. For years I played almost all my poker in Atlantic City, where I don't think straddles were even allowed, or if they were no one ever did them.
I don't remember them being done whenever I played in Las Vegas either.

Now I play at two rooms in Washington - at one it counts as the first raise, at the other it doesn't.

Yesterday, for the first time ever, I played in a game where everyone at the table agreed to straddle (for many hours). It was still a 4 bet max preflop though, including the straddle.
