You pay off and tightwad has kings? Standard in the off chance the omc is actively having a stroke???

nh I play it the same

I lost and I was somewhat surprised at the hand!

I felt as though I should have put in more action somehow

What did he have? And why did you feel you should have put in more action when you lost?

KQhh which means I got the flop board wrong. Kx4h5h

Why did that hand surprise you? And why would you have wanted to put in more action?

I assume when you say the guy is very nitty that he's not going to put in a ton of action with just one pair, so really even calling the river here is somewhat optimistic (but I would play it the same).

I think NFS is implying that the button is so tight that he thought button would fold even KQs facing a raise. And I understand the sentiment of feeling like you didn't put in enough action when you have AA here and never put in a raise post-flop. I think you played the hand well given your read on button, but I wouldn't play it the same against a generic villain. I'd either b/3b flop or k/r turn.

I was surprised he raised the flop with one pair.

I was surprised he raised the flop with one pair.

Top pair with a high flush draw is a pretty strong hand. I think he would have been a favorite against you if you didn't have the ace of hearts.

He certainly should raise the flop but I’m still surprised he did

So you thought he had to have better than one pair? That would have meant you had two outs and maybe should have folded. Although I guess the backdoor flush draw might barely push it over to a call. Would you have folded the turn if you didn't improve?

Rob, I think you're being overly literal here. Most of the time we don't have 100% confidence in our reads. There isn't a contradiction between calling down and being surprised to see villain have just one pair.

Yeah I know. I even said that I would have played it the same. It's hard to do in real time, but now is a good time to consider all your options.

I don't often fold a big pair in a HU myself, but I play with mostly people who both bluff and value bet too thinly. 15 years ago I played with many people who were only aggressive with a big hand and I did a lot of folding. The biggest winners in the game were me and a friend who talked about being the best at folding (he even did some fold tricks like others did chip tricks).

If you don't use your reads for something, there's no point in having them.
