Bike 60 - Two Stupid Overpair Lines
Two similar hands from the same session that I am positive I butchered:
Hand 1
Bad LAG opens EP, good player 3bets LJ, I 4bet QdQh in the CO. Blinds fold EP and LJ call.
Flop 456ddh. EP checks, LJ bets, I call, EP calls.
Turn 3d. EP checks, LJ bets, I raise, EP folds, LJ 3bets, I call.
River 3s. EP bets I call.
Hand 2
Huge LAG opens UTG, bad player 3bets UTG+1, MP player who plays a ton but is not great calls 3 cold, folded to me in the BB and I have AsAd. I cold 4bet and everyone calls.
Flop Qd Td 9h. I check, UTG bets, UTG+1 folds, MP raises, I call 2 cold, UTG calls.
Turn 6s. I check, UTG checks, MP bets, I raise, UTG folds, MP 3bets, I call.
River 4d. I check, MP bets, I call.

cant really say i understand raising the turn in h1, hand doesnt need protection and board sucks
h2 seems ok i dont think theres a right or wrong play to play it unless you fold. sucks being OOP. i probably just shrug 3b flop and see what happens. checking flop seems good though.

So I think in hand 1 I responded to his flop donk by just assigning him a range I was crushing, deciding I needed to raise one street, and concluding that the turn was the place to do it. In retrospect I think I should have just started by raising the flop and calling down a 3bet.

i think the most +EV line on this board is probably just to call flop, call turn, call river. seems like a classic wait for the turn to raise spot for protection (if the turn bricks) otherwise call down.
so obv if the turn was some brick card then yeah id raise
Hand 1, not sure we can fold anything getting 17:1 ip so there's some tension between denying equity from EP right away and doing that more efficiently on some turns when LJ bets again under the cover of having some slowplays. On balance I agree with your decision to wait for the turn. But this isn't one of them as flush and more straights get there and LJ isn't dissuaded. Mostly call call from here.
Hand 2, this is where the straight on board *really* interferes with your overpair advantage because the sets and straights seem more likely in their ranges. Also, holding AA means our hand needs a little less protection with no overcards to come. I think I'd just draw at it and fold on a few particularly bad runouts. Note that once MP raises flop, we start to find some folds I think and can fastplay. So maybe this is where AA can 3bet? As played note that 87 gets there ott seeming like a reason for just call. As played once you bloat don't fold but yes feels terrible.
Hand 1 I don’t raise turn. As played… idk I kinda lean towards folding to the 3bet. Just seems like we never win here. I understand calling, it seems close.
Hand 2 I 3bet flop. Not sure if check raising is best or just check call on turn. Rest seems fine as played.

Hand 1 I don't think you can fold to the 3 bet with a Queen high flush draw, but I raise flop if anywhere - definitely not the turn.
Hand 2 Don't raise the turn unless you can safely fold to a 3 bet because you have no more than 2 outs. If you can't do that, just call down.
I misread hand 1. Thought there were 4 diamonds on board.
Hand 1, I just raise flop because its three ways and the hand just plays so much better that way. Too many gross ways the turn plays out when we wait to raise.
Hand 2, our range is just so so strong pre that I feel like we can and should just bet flop and take it from there. As played, I'd probably 3b flop rather than waiting to raise the turn.
I see both of these as hands where we really just want to juice our equity advantage in these multiway spots. Yes, these are dangerous boards, but they're also boards where we are going to be getting raised and called by all kinds of worse hands. I'd be much more inclined to be slowplaying on drier boards where we are less likely to get action.
